Culture wars aren’t just happening in government or the workplace. They are also happening in our homes through movies and TV shows. Diversity in Hollywood movies is good and common, but at what point can you say that woke culture and his SJWs have gone too far?
Wake culture and SJWs ruin movies
Movies are one of the greatest creations in human history. Thanks to movies, we can travel back in time and even to galaxies far, far away. We can escape to places beyond our dreams and find ourselves in a fantasy world. Movies are also a great way to learn. By retelling stories about war, we can trace the progress of humanity, gain insight into different countries and cultures, and see how far we have come as a society. Like photographs, movies are snapshots of a point in time. This used to be the essence of all movies.
But these days, Hollywood is on a mission to usher us into a more “woke” future by trying to right all the wrongs of social ills in its movies. Hollywood, which has shed the sexism, racial stereotypes, and prejudice of the past, is trying to erase its past in order to improve the problem of unconscious bias.
But they don’t do it very well.
Political correctness in movies

While inclusivity, representation, and female empowerment are today’s buzzwords, a self-conscious new Hollywood is so focused on “fitting in” that it forgets what makes a movie successful: good storytelling. It seems like it is.
It seems like casting the movie is a priority and it’s all about checking the boxes.
Black: Check.
Brown: Check.
Disable: Check.
Transgender: Check.
Gay: Check it out.
Female characters in positions of authority: Check.
In some cases, the quality of the script can be reduced to a trivial thought. (Please remember Ghost Busters Unfortunately, this haphazard way of trying to prove that they are socially conscious reduces a serious message about equality to a mere problem. Flirty. Representation and inclusivity are important. But so is art.
But Hollywood isn’t entirely to blame for this “please everyone at once” or woke movie trend.
Join the Social Justice Warriors, aka SJWs
It seems like every time a new movie is released these days, it’s marred by a tiresome amount of controversy and complaints. This is SJW’s job. SJWs have found a home and a platform in the digital space. These people seem to be well-versed in intersectional theory, but they exist for the sole purpose of telling people in the entertainment industry that they are wrong.
To stay up to date with the latest news about new releases, you’ll no longer encounter phrases like “XYZ has been canceled” or petitions asking creators to reconsider their casting choices. Robert Pattinson is Batman, folks. Please deal with it!
In the words of the great 21st century philosopher Taylor Swift, “You need to calm down!” Just because a movie doesn’t fit into the current social narrative doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist. . Perhaps if people saw something that made them a little uncomfortable, it might spark a productive dialogue to encourage change in the real world.
With that in mind, something has to be done about the representation on screen. But rushing to “fix” a much-loved classic story, movie, or comic book is never the right approach. Hollywood’s sudden and hasty attempt to cover up the cracks in inequality has sparked an interesting debate. Is the trend of reimagining classic films with more diverse casts really about inclusivity, or is it just a way for movie moguls to make tons of money without any creative effort? Is it just a convenient method? Perhaps it just emphasizes the lack of original ideas.
It could also be argued that rather than trying to repair the shortcomings of the past, filmmakers should look to creating a more inclusive future. Suppose people are clearly upset about the recasting of an iconic character of a different gender, race, or sexual orientation. Why not create a new iconic character and leave the sexist and xenophobic ones in the past? We’re looking at you, 007!
But on the flip side, is there a fear that creating entirely new qualities and characters based on true equality and diversity will not be easily accepted by audiences who have rejected “wokeness”? Maybe. So in order to prevent that rejection, all they do is “repaint” the old to appease those seeking redemption while retaining the loyalty of old fans. By doing so they secure the money and quiet the crowd.
So is wake culture ruining movies?
Right now, Hollywood’s main goal seems to be to protect their money by pandering to SJWs, ultimately depriving viewers of quality storytelling.
That’s an insult even to discerning movie fans. For example, do I have to flatter a character, see them as a role model, or see them as a source of inspiration just because she’s a woman? no thanks. Luke Skywalker will always be my favorite movie hero. Sorry, Princess Leia.
Seriously, Marvel, did you have to bring all the female characters together in one frame during the final battle sequence? Does it seem forced and condescending?
Let’s be real for a moment. Most fans have no problem with characters of different races, genders, and sexual orientations. In some cases, diversity is the only great thing about many movies. No one has a problem with a “different” protagonist, except maybe a few sad people.
What’s troubling is the forced and poorly formulated nature of it all.
