This is a story that many people fell in love with through engaging podcasts, and now a new audience is learning about it.
And they have doubts.
“Scamanda,” a four-part documentary based on the #1 popular podcast of the same name, introduced the world to Amanda Riley this week. She’s a wife, mother, and blogger, but she’s currently sitting in prison after stealing $100,000 from friends, family, and even strangers.
This documentary series delves deeper into the heinous lies Amanda told to get money and attention, and digs a little deeper into her family’s current situation.
Because even though the podcast answered many fans’ questions, many are still trying to figure out how much her husband knew and if he was involved in her plans.
Story of the podcast “Scamanda”
In summary, this podcast and now documentary series tells the story of Amanda Riley, a former teacher and principal from Northern California. In 2012, Amanda revealed to her loved ones that she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She then started a blog to “document” her journey against the disease. This lasted nearly seven years, during which time many of her friends, family, and online followers contributed more than $105,000 in total to cover her medical expenses.
problem? Amanda never had cancer. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she “used her presence on these sites to ‘document’ her non-existent medical conditions and actively solicited donations to cover her medical expenses.” That’s what it means.
She even went so far as to shave her head and falsify her medical records. The podcast finale premiered in the summer of 2023, one year after Amanda was sentenced to five years in federal prison and pleaded guilty in May for wire fraud in the scheme.
Well, what about her husband?
What Corey Riley Knew
Podcast fans flooded Reddit with theories about how much Amanda’s husband Corey Riley may or may not know.
We know from the podcast that close family members, including Corey, helped her set up a website to collect donations and contributed posts to her blog. However, no charges were brought against anyone else in the family.
The podcast also revealed that Corey Riley was in a legal battle with ex-wife Aletta Riley over custody of their daughter Jessa while Amanda was faking cancer.
He even cited his wife’s “diagnosis” and medical expenses in an attempt to win custody of Jessa and reduce his child support payments.
How much he knew remains a mystery — if you don’t listen carefully, producer and podcast host Charlie Webster teases. She was asked point-blank if she thought Corey knew what was going on.
“So that’s what I would say,” she said. glamor. “If you listen carefully to the podcast, there are four bonus episodes scheduled after the final episode, if you listen carefully to the nuances of what is said, you will get the answer: People are smart. We’ve taken great care to make sure we’re true to the facts, but we’ve also presented the facts for you to decide.
Where is Corey now?
Amanda is still in prison and Corey has not been charged in connection with her crimes, so he is a free man.
According to Charlie, Corey is “taking care of their two kids in Texas while Amanda is in prison.”
Oh, and don’t forget about the kids. The couple have two young boys, and throughout the whole ordeal they both believed their mother was going to die.
If you look for fans discussing the podcast on Reddit, this is the topic they’re most vocal about.
“I truly believe there is no way her husband and mother (or at least probably her siblings) didn’t know,” one commenter wrote. “Sadly, it was her two sons who were least able to realize that it was a lie. I was too young to understand psychologically what life was all about.” Appointments and medical equipment make up the majority. ”
Only time will tell if this documentary delves deeper into Cory and the boys’ lives. He doesn’t have any social media accounts, so it’s very difficult to determine anything beyond what has already been discussed.
However, we will continue to update you as we learn more.
