This week’s most anticipated new releases on Netflix
Black Mass (2015)
Coming to Netflix: Thursday
Johnny Depp’s movies are always a hit when they are released on Netflix, but this week Black Mass will be available in the US for the first time. Depp plays James “Whitey” Bulger, the brother of a state senator who was infamous for being one of the most violent criminals in South Boston history. The cast also includes Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Julianne Nicholson and Kevin Bacon.
The film received largely positive reviews from a wide range of critics and continues to be very well-received by audiences to this day. In November 2015, Chris Hewitt of Empire Magazine gave the film a glowing review, calling it “compelling, powerfully acted, and with enough wrinkles to avoid the ghosts of gangster movies past.”

heel (Season 1-2)
Coming to Netflix: Saturday
Netflix’s 2024 licensing boom continues with Starz’s first major series coming to Netflix next weekend. Unfortunately, it’s coming to Netflix after being recently canceled, so it’s highly unlikely that Netflix will step in and renew the show for future productions if it turns out to be a big hit, but there’s hope.
Starring Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig and Kelli Berglund, the story is set in a small Georgia town where a family-run wrestling organization is plagued by conflicts both in and out of the ring, putting its survival in jeopardy.
