If you miss it, you’ll lose all eight on Netflix Voltron: Legendary Defender The removal applies worldwide and initially announced a late September departure.
Removal notices for the series are now starting to appear on Netflix’s pages, leading to a campaign asking Netflix to keep the show. Voltron’s official page has given fans no notice of the show’s ending after a notice appeared on the show’s page within the Netflix US interface stating that the last day to watch was December 6th and removal was scheduled for December 7th. We are continuing to provide updates on the situation.
When we first announced their departure, Voltron’s official Instagram account said: If we know, you will know too. ”
Now, several months later, Voltron’s official Facebook page has mentioned the departure in a recent FB post that has received over 600 likes. They revealed a few things about their departure, saying that the future of the show remains in discussion.
Their full statement is below:
“The situation can be summarized as follows.
1. Voltron: Legendary Defenders is not produced by Netflix. Produced by DreamWorks Animation and licensed to Netflix. That license will expire.
2. The license may be renewed and discussions are ongoing between all parties involved.
3. If the license is not renewed, DreamWorks is free to license VLD to another streaming platform.
4. Seasons 1-6 are available for purchase on Amazon Prime. It will continue to be available after December 7th. Unfortunately, Seasons 7 and 8 will be difficult to obtain for now.
5. If no extension is agreed, December 7th will not be the “last” date on which you can watch Voltron: Legend Defenders on Netflix, but the “first” date on which you will “no longer be able to” watch Voltron: Legend Defenders on Netflix.
People are asking if this is because Amazon is producing a live-action Voltron movie. The live-action movie and the end of the Legend Defender streaming contract are completely unrelated. Coincidentally, the film, which has been in development for years, is moving into production around the same time that Netflix’s six-year contract ends.
Assuming your contract isn’t renewed, if you want to rewatch Voltron: Legend Defender one more time while it’s still on Netflix, you have 50 days to watch all 75 episodes.
So if you watch three episodes every two days, or about 11 episodes a week, you can say goodbye to VLD on Netflix at the same time Paladins says goodbye to Lions.
Legend Defender will still be available elsewhere, but its removal from Netflix will mark the end of the Voltron era.
Fans then asked for a physical release in the comments, but the account replied, “No answer as to whether the entire series will be released on physical media or whether the past two seasons will be released on physical media. The only advice we can give is to keep asking to make it clear there is a demand.”
Neither Netflix nor DreamWorks Animation have commented, and based on previous DreamWorks TV takedowns, their titles are often considered lost media.
As a side note, it’s refreshing to see official content about the removal of Netflix originals. Netflix doesn’t comment publicly for the most part, but given the uproar already surrounding this takedown, it’s nice to get some feedback from something resembling an official channel.
Were you disappointed in that? Voltron: Legendary Defender Are you leaving Netflix?
