Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom “Shifting Gears” for 20th Television. Allen is attached to star and executive produce the (still tentatively titled) multi-cam sitcom pilot, which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Tucker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays “Matt, the stubborn widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop.” The real restoration begins when Matt’s estranged daughter and teenage children move into his home. ”
Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina are the show’s non-writing executive producers.
“Shifting Gears” continues Allen’s long association with ABC and Disney, including the long-running hit (1991-1997) “Home Improvement.” Allen then starred in ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” which aired on Alphabet Web from 2011 to 2017 before moving to Fox from 2018 to 2021.
Allen most recently starred in and executive produced the Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses.” In that series, he reprized his role as Scott Calvin/Santa.
Among his recent credits: Allen’s 10-episode series “More Power,” which premiered on the History Channel in 2022 and reunited him with “Home Improvement” co-star Richard Kern. Allen also starred and executive produced the competition series “Assembly Required,” which also starred Khan.
Allen also spent decades at Disney, where he was the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s Oscar-winning Toy Story series.
As for the Scully family, recent credits include the animated series “Duncanville” and a long stint on “The Simpsons.”
Allen is repped by Messina Baker Entertainment, WME and Ziffren Brittenham. Scalise is represented by Verve.
