“This Is Us” joins the list of titles that have seen a significant increase in viewership since being added to Netflix. The series, already available on Hulu, was added to Netflix on January 8th and was watched for 929 million minutes on both services from January 15th to January 21st, ranking #8 on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings. Ranked in first place.
Two other titles on the January 15-21 chart enjoy a similar effect. “Young Sheldon” ranked third with 1.2 billion minutes watched, continuing a strong streak that began when it was added to Netflix in November. And “Suits” became the most streamed title in the U.S. in 2023 after being added to Netflix in June, ranking 10th this week with 732 million minutes watched.
With 1.5 billion minutes watched, this week’s No. 1 title was “Bluey” (second most streamed title in 2023 behind “Suits”). “Reacher” came in second with 1.2 billion minutes watched. Notably, Amazon Prime Video released the season 2 finale during this viewing period.
“American Nightmare” debuted at No. 4 with 1.1 billion minutes watched in the first five days of distribution, followed by chart regular “Grey’s Anatomy” with just under 1.1 billion minutes.
After two weeks at number one, “Fool Me Once” became the sixth title on the chart with just under 1.1 billion minutes watched. Right behind it was the Netflix movie “Lift,” which debuted in the same spot last week. In her first week of release, viewership increased from 872 million minutes for her to just over 1 billion minutes for him. In ninth place was chart regular “NCIS,” with 756 million minutes watched.
Last week, “Echo” was unusual for a Marvel series to debut on the overall streaming chart, but instead of following Marvel’s usual weekly decline, all episodes dropped at the same time. This was not surprising, but the series did not move up the standings. It lacked staying power and failed to rank on either the overall chart or the streaming original chart from January 15th to 21st.
Also worth noting is “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” which, although it did not rank in the overall chart, sold 500 million yen between January 15th, when the sixth episode of the series dropped, and January 21st. It was watched for 29 million minutes, making it the No. 4 streaming original.
Peacock has two titles on the Streaming Originals chart for the first time. “Ted” (which placed him in seventh place with 429 million minutes watched) and “The Traitor” (which ranked him eighth with 420 million minutes watched).
In addition, “The Bear” moved up the rankings after winning the award, returning to No. 9 on the original chart with 391 million minutes watched after winning an Emmy, Golden Globe and several Critics’ Choice Awards.
