The sequel to the 2019 Taiwanese series “The World Between Us” made its teaser debut at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), with “Meteor Garden” star Vic Chou leading the ensemble cast in a standing-room-only release. .
The series is scheduled for release in 2025 after five years of script development. The story begins with an arson incident, takes inspiration from judicial cases, and explores themes such as choice, healing, and gaps in social support systems.
The two-minute preview revealed an epic 20-year story that follows six families affected by a variety of events, including a police stabbing, a train derailment and a standoff in Congress.
Director Lin Chunyang, who is returning with Golden Chong Award-winning producer Jade Lin and screenwriter Lu Xiyuan, likened the scale of the production to “making three dramas at once.”
Chou plays the main character, Ma Yimsen, who lost his wife and child in an accident. “Ma Yixian is a heavy and emotional role, with moments of intense sadness, frustration, and uncontrollable anger,” Chou said at the event.
The cast includes Xue Shilin as Hikaru Gao Cheng, a conflicted member of parliament, who describes his character as “an idealist, caught between self-actualization and traditional politics,” and a person who is unable to distinguish between aspirations and reality. He described it as “sandwich stuffing” caught in the middle.
Xue said that her scenes with veteran actor Yang Kuei-mei, who plays her mother, were “an exhilarating experience”. Liu Zhuchuan plays Fu Guangjun, a young man with ADHD whose actions are central to the story, while 15-year-old Ryan Pai plays the role of Luo Yu, whose family faces turmoil due to a violent incident.
The series is a co-production of Taiwan Creative Content Agency, Public Television Service Foundation, Asia Play Taiwan Digital Entertainment, and KOKO Entertainment, and is produced by DaMou Entertainment. Screenworks Asia, Catchplay’s production division, is handling international sales.
