The Lonely Island’s latest song, premiered on Saturday Night Live, features pop sensation Charli XCX, who sings with Andy Samberg about white suburbanites calling the police. Samberg can be seen polishing various brightly colored phones with a satisfied smile on his face as he prepares to call the police. Above his collection of cell phones is written “Cell Phones to Steal”.
In the music video, Weekend Update host Colin Jost is seen being arrested by members of the police when he calls the police outside Samberg’s home. At one point in the song, Samberg and Charli XCX, dressed in suburban chic, call the police on their neighborhood Girl Scouts.
At various points around the perimeter of the house, Samberg and Charli XCX look at their neighbors through binoculars, measure the distance from their neighbors’ cars to their driveways, and post signs on their lawns that say “Restrict Dogs.” I can see you doing it.
“Now, I’m going to call the police, and I’m going to report it anonymously!” said Samberg, who looked as white as Wonder Bread, wearing a puffy vest and khakis. “I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight!” Clunes Samberg.
In the photo, Samberg is smiling and singing while eating popcorn in the jury box in the courtroom. “You better believe I’ll show up in court!” Lonely Island member Akiva Shafer is then seen filming the incident on her smartphone. This pays homage to the modern phenomenon of mobile phone owners filming suspicious incidents and sharing them on social media.
In the final scene of the music video, Charli XCX and Samberg, wearing matching red outfits, dance scantily clad in the street with police officers and neighbors.
The song follows Lonely Island’s last hit, “Sushi Glory Hole,” which was featured on “Saturday Night Live,” about secret sushi spots around New York City.
Charli XCX is the episode’s host and musical guest.
