Meadowlark Media and Barnicle Brothers are producing the series in partnership with MLB. Colin and Nick Barnicle, John Skipper, Deirdre Fenton, Howard Bryant, Melody Shafir, Nick Davis and Nick Trotta will serve as executive producers.
Director Colin Barnicle said of the upcoming series:
“This series is not just about the 2004 ALCS. I want you to know how the organization has changed with Shipp, how the team has been built from the front office, and how the clubhouse has come together after losing to a champion for 86 years. It hasn’t been a straight line. It’s been funny at times. There have been quite a few bumps along the way. But those trials and tribulations have defined our decisions and team chemistry. That determined how they were able to come back from losing three games in the ALCS. It didn’t start with Game 4 of the ALCS.”

In the 2004 World Series, the Boston Red Sox completed the greatest comeback in baseball history. On the way to the World Series, they defeated their arch-rival New York Yankees and overcame a 3-0 deficit against the St. Louis Cardinals in the finals. Not only was this comeback monumental, it ended an 86-year wait for a World Series championship and ended the “Curse of the Bambino.”
Gabe Spitzer, vice president of nonfiction sports at Netflix, said:
“Our fans love that our sports series focuses on the drama of sports, especially when it comes to drama as dramatic as the 2004 Red Sox, who witnessed a comeback from the stands in Game 7 against the Yankees. “We’re excited to partner with this iconic franchise to celebrate 20 years of the sport’s greatest return in history, while also looking forward to the team’s future with inside access to the 2024 campaign. Masu.”
