“It’s the season of the clown…and ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ was supposed to reign as the clown prince of cinema, but an even scarier clown is crushing the box office.
“Terrifier 3” — a low-budget, gory horror film about a serial killer dressed as a clown — hit the box office last week and has already soared past “Joker 2″… “Joker 2” The film, which made $18 million during its release, only made $7 million this weekend.

we sat together david howard thornton — He played Art the Clown in all three “Terrific” movies — and he calls it a David-versus-Goliath matchup of small indie films versus big studio projects. He told us he was stunned.
DHT attributes its success to two factors. It’s about staying true to the rabid fan base of the “Terrifier” series and the spirit of the films.
According to David, the film received offers from studios to finance the film, but the financiers turned them down because they wanted to change the film in a way that made the creative team uncomfortable.
David says he thinks the big problem with movie theaters is that studios aren’t making movies that people need to see in large groups… so go out and watch a movie. There is less motivation to do so. He says “Terrifier 3” is best seen in groups, which is a big plus in their column.
By the way…David has a lot to say about the movie Joker. Watch until the end to see why he was so shocked that the sequel was a huge hit.
As you may know, Joker: Folie à Deux did not do well at the box office in its first week and appears to be on the verge of losing a lot of money. A source told the media: variety The film needs to make $450 million to break even. To date, it has only earned around $215 million worldwide.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” received an abysmal score on the review aggregation site, earning just 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In conclusion, “Terrifier 3” is all the rage. Although, I imagine Warner Bros. executives are more scared of the box office success of the new Joker movie!
