“Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is still the main producer of Season 2 of the hit Netflix series, despite losing “8 to 9” teeth due to stress during the filming of the show’s debut. He said his motive was money.
In an interview in June 2022 variety After the huge success of Season 1 of “Squid Game,” a fan revealed that six of his teeth fell out during the first production. However, in an interview with the BBC ahead of the second season’s premiere next month, Hwang clarified that it was actually an “eight or nine.”
At one point, Hwang said he gave up on producing another season because the series was having a negative impact on his stress levels and health. But he eventually changed his mind, thinking he could get paid to give the survival horror series another shot.
“The first series was a huge success worldwide, but to be honest, I didn’t make a lot of money. So by doing the second series, it also makes up for the success of the first series.” he told the BBC, adding: “We haven’t quite finished the story.”
In season 2, Song Ki-hoon, also known as Player 456 (Lee Jeong-jae), rejoins the squid game after winning at the end of season 1. Armed with knowledge of what the game is actually about, he tries to save lives. Try to convince other players to opt out and exit the game once and for all.
“The stress I’m feeling right now is so much more,” Huang told the BBC, as the first season of “The Squid Game” became the most successful show in Netflix’s history at the time. Although he hasn’t lost any more teeth yet, he ended the interview by saying, “I’ll probably have to have a few more pulled out soon.”
“The Squid Game” Season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 26th.
