The summer of “Brat” may be over, but it’s not really dead until “Saturday Night Live” rolls around.
On Saturday’s season opener of the NBC sketch comedy series, Bowen Yang transforms into Charli XCX, host of a fictional series called “Talk Talk Show,” after one of the British pop star’s song titles. served as
In this corner, Yang welcomed “Australian Dingo Handsome Troye Sivan,” with whom Charli XCX is currently on the Sweat Tour. The “Rush” singer was played by Sarah Sherman, who pulled up her shirt to reveal fake washboard abs.
“Troy, are you happy to be here?” Jan asked, to which Sherman replied, “Nauru!”
Yang then takes a quick look at recent events and characterizes them as either “brats or idiots.” Verdict: Hunter Biden’s laptop is a ‘brat’, Mark Robinson’s search history is a ‘nut’. Barron Trump, who attends New York University, is a “brat,” but NYU itself is “shit.” Will Amy Adams appear in ‘Night Bitch’? ‘Brat’ Eric Adams indicted? “nut”
Yang then invited “queer nightlife icon Suzanne Virtue and straight CNN icon Caitlan Collins” as guests on “The Talk Show,” as well as “SNL” host Gene and Played by Smart and Chloe Fineman.
Yang then sent political questions to Smart’s Suzanne Birch, asking questions such as “Have you ever done ketamine?” Feynman became CNN anchor.
The next person to be introduced was “C-SPAN’s bad girl”, aka U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas, played by Ego Nwodim. Then the congressman has no filter on everything from J.D. Vance (“smoky-eyed couchsexuals can’t order donuts, but they have donut bodies”) to gerrymandering (“crazy-shaped perverse bitches”) told his thoughts.
Charli XCX’s sixth studio album, Brat, was released on June 7th and immediately captured the cultural (and, to some extent, political) zeitgeist. Hyperpop-influenced club bangers and slime green aesthetics make it the album of the summer. It also became the subject of TikTok dances and memes, and the Kamala Harris campaign briefly adopted the nickname “Brat.”
Charli XCX brought “Brat” to New York a week before “SNL” to perform at Madison Square Garden with Troye Sivan and special guests Lorde and Addison Rae. She is scheduled to release her “Brat” remix album on October 11th.
“Saturday Night Live” began its 50th season on September 28 with host Gene Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll. The iconic sketch comedy series will celebrate its big anniversary with a live primetime special on February 16th. The series airs on NBC at 11:30pm ET and streams on Peacock.
