We first learned in May that Netflix had licensed the critically acclaimed Max Original Animated Series. scavenger’s rainadding shows in both the UK and US on May 31, 2024. As part of that addition, the hope was that the show would be given new life and hopefully renewed for a second season. That Warner Bros. passed.
After the show’s release on Netflix, we spoke with co-creator Joe Bennett and executive producer Sean Bucklew to discuss the possibility of a second season for the show. They expressed optimism, noting that the show’s performance on Netflix could impact future seasons. Buckerew said the team has ideas for continuing the story and is excited about the potential for further development. However, they admit that the decision will primarily depend on the show’s reception and viewership on Netflix.
Unfortunately, the show didn’t make much of an impact when it hit Netflix. It missed out on the world weekly statistics top 10 and the daily TV top 10 in the UK and US. The only data we have on this show comes from the Netflix Engagement Report for the first half of 2024 (covering viewing from January to June), which says the series was watched for 2.8 million hours and 60. This equates to 10,000 views. Please note that it only took one month for the ratings to increase, but it did increase the ratings, and as a result, it reached number 2965 on the TV charts for the first half of this year.
In an Instagram post (where he posted a teaser for season 2 and embedded it below), Joe Bennett stated that the show is not expected to return and that Netflix has decided not to move forward with season 2. suggested. He writes:
“At this time, Scavenger’s Rain has not been renewed for season 2.
I wanted to tell you guys directly because I really love our fanbase, they’re the champions of this show, and I don’t want you to feel isolated.
We had to fight hard every step of the way to create this show, starting with the Scavengers short film in 2016 and ending with the release of the first season last year.
This is a case study of believing in something and persevering through a million hurdles. But especially thanks to the many people who supported this project in big and small ways, this project was completed. I would like to thank my co-creators Charles Huettner @charles.huettner, Chris Prynoski @chrisprynoski, @titmouseinc from my home base @greenstreetpictures, the writers, directors, and so many amazing artists. Masu. They worked tirelessly on the show, and so did Max’s people, who were great partners to work with.
But this is not the end. There are more stories to tell. We are ready to make next season. And we produced a teaser in-house about what’s to come in the second season of Greenstreet.
Thank you again to everyone who watched and supported the program. ”
As mentioned above, some of the posts included early footage teasing what we could have expected if a full season 2 was actually greenlit by Green Street Pictures.
Scavenger’s Rain isn’t the only show vying to be revived on Netflix, as it taps into a number of canceled projects from different distribution companies. Last month, we learned that Netflix has no intention of producing additional seasons. warriorwe suspect something similar will happen soon heels Subject to license from Starz.
