Very sad news has arrived from the world of daytime dramas.
Ron Hale, who briefly played Roger Coleridge on ABC’s Ryan’s Hope and was the father of gangster Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, died on August 27, according to his obituary.
He was 78 years old.
The cause of death has not been announced.
A statement on General Hospital’s official Twitter account said: “The entire General Hospital family is saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Hale.”
“We would like to express our condolences to his loved ones at this difficult time. He was a wonderful actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace.”
Television viewers became familiar with Hale as Dr. Roger Coleridge on Ryan’s Hope from 1975 to 1989.
From there, the actor starred on General Hospital from 1995 to 2010. The show aired from 1997 to 2000 in conjunction with its spinoff series Port Charles.
Hale was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Daytime Drama Series for Ryan’s Hope in 1979 and 1980.
The late star played Watergate robber Frank Sturges in the 1976 film “All the President’s Men” and the bailiff in the 1994 courtroom drama “Trial by Jury.”
“We are so sorry to have lost another great person. My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was a great talent and an even better friend. We will miss you so much.” -Our Lives alum Billy Warlock wrote on Twitter on October 2nd.
According to Hale’s obituary, he was a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and attended Furman University. Before becoming a star of the beloved soap opera, he appeared in plays at the Trustas Theater in Columbia, South Carolina.
The actor is survived by nieces and nephews, Lori Brown (Janet Brabham), Max Brabham, Erin Wilson (Lawrence), and Mark Brown (Betsy).
