The cops definitely knew who they were arresting when they cuffed them. Rajon Rondo Earlier this year…obtained as police body camera footage, TMZ Sportsshows the officers discussing his NBA career immediately after pulling him over.
As we previously reported, the stop happened on January 28 in Jackson County, Indiana… after authorities alleged the license plate was not properly secured to the back of Rondo’s black Tesla.
The video shows that after first speaking with Rondo and obtaining information, police returned to their squad car and chatted for several minutes about the time the former Celtics guard had spent in the hardwood forest.
“He’s a former basketball player,” one of the officers can be heard saying in the video. “He played for many NBA teams.”
The man added, “I’m not worried, I’m just saying.”
During a subsequent traffic stop, one of the officers at the scene actually brought up Rondo’s NBA career to his face, asking him straight up, “You played in the NBA, didn’t you, buddy?”
When Rondo told him “yes” and how long, the officer yelled, “Wow!”
Unfortunately for Rondo, his fame didn’t help him much during his run-in with the police…because he still was arrested by the police They said they found a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a gun in his ride.
The 38-year-old four-time All-Star, who last played in the NBA in the 2021-22 season, was charged with three charges in the matchup…back in September. reached a plea deal Cooperate with prosecutors to close the case.
Rondo agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a handgun…in exchange, authorities dropped two other charges Rondo was facing. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail…but the sentence was suspended and he would instead serve a period of probation if he avoided further trouble.
