Rachel Zegler has been criticized for her “President Trump” comment.
As with the rest of America, celebrity reactions to the 2024 election results have been mixed.
Many reacted with sadness and justified fear. Some people responded with misogynistic memes.
Rachel Zegler vented her anger not only at Trump’s victory and America’s loss, but also at the voters who are trying to restore Trump to the presidency. She apologized after receiving backlash, including one critic actually calling her a “pig.”
What did Rachel Zegler say about Donald Trump?
Rachel Zegler, star of West Side Story and Disney’s upcoming remake of Snow White, posted on her Instagram in response to the 2024 election results.
Like many, many people, she was frustrated by the outcome and the immediate uncertainty of what was to come.
“I am speechless in this situation,” she began. She expressed her heartbreak and disappointment at the “huge numbers of people who rallied around this man who threatens our democracy.”
Rachel declared. “I’m here with you. Crying, screaming, hugging. A poetic expression of how the left continues to fail us in charting a new path.”
Like millions of Americans, Rachel went on to lament the “deep-rooted ills of this country” that allow people like Trump to triumph over basic decency.
She also expressed hope that “Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself will never know peace.” She also ended one of her Story posts simply with, “Damn, Donald Trump.”
Zegler wisely urged people to stop using Twitter. President Trump’s hype man Elon Musk bought the platform and made it significantly worse, causing an exodus of millions of users. Critics are divided over whether Twitter’s decline is due to the malice and incompetence of its notorious owners.
Why is Rachel Zegler receiving backlash?
Following her remarks, some readers found Rachel Zegler’s views on Trump unsympathetic. Instead, they distributed screenshots on social media as if they were evidence of wrongdoing.
“@rachelzegler is a talentless, hateful piece of human garbage,” declared one Twitter user.
Another tweet complained: “I never thought I’d see a time when a literal Disney princess would intentionally use words like ‘fk’ in public, but here it is.”
While it’s true that many people who find the use of “fk” scandalous are older people, that doesn’t mean this Twitter user did. Political motivations can make the most ordinary actions seem “outrageous,” such as Rachel Zegler’s feelings toward Trump. we all do it.
The bizarre backlash wasn’t limited to random people still posting on Twitter like it was in 2014. Right-wing provocateur Megyn Kelly even called Rachel a “pig.” Classy as always, Megyn.
Rachel then quickly backtracked, choosing to apologize for the tone of Trump’s commentary.
“Hate and anger have pushed us further and further from peace and understanding. I am sorry for contributing to the negative discourse,” she wrote in a new Instagram Story.
“This has been an emotional week for many of us,” she admitted. “But I strongly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it differs from mine.”
Rachel ended her apology, which was less relatable than her previous post, by saying, “I am committed to actively contributing towards a better tomorrow.” At least that last part makes a lot of sense.
Did Disney force her to apologize?
There is no evidence that Disney forcefully apologized. But Rachel is the star of Disney’s upcoming live-action remake (which they keep making these for some reason). snow white.
It’s possible that Disney asked her to retract her comments following boycott threats from people with an apparently distorted sense of right and wrong. (Speaking of such a person, my co-star is Gal Gadot, so…this movie is… already It’s going to be controversial. )
But did Rachel’s Trump remarks cross the line? Probably not. That line about Trump supporters never know peace However, I may have gone a little too far.
After all, we certainly want to create a world where everyone can prosper and know peace, even those in our own country who have led us astray again. is.
When they go low, we go high.
