Six unlikely heroes reluctantly accept the task of bringing the only vaccine against the Plague of Idiots to a safe haven where Norway’s brightest minds have taken refuge.
Behind this high-concept show is Seefood TV, one of Norway’s biggest producers of comedy and reality shows (Santa in the Hay, Kompany Lauritsen, Couples Therapy). Writer Christopher Parle is credited with Seefood’s 2019 Cannes series. Christmas on Blood Mountain” and helmer Erlend Westnes (“Collectivet”).
Rounding out the cast are Jakob Schoen Andersson (“Collectivet”) as the self-absorbed musician and poet Frode Doun, and Henrik Mestad (“Furia,” “Occupied”) as Perry, the preparer of doom. ), Kristin Grensen (Basic Bitch) as “The Basic Bitch”. Creating “Dumb’s Day”
Westness said she first came up with the idea of doing a show about the end of the world in 2017-2018. “I love the apocalypse genre, and I started thinking about what if…”
“Yes, we live in a society where everything is given away, so we thought that if the apocalypse happened, we wouldn’t last a second,” Parle added.
“We started writing in the spring of 2018 and approached NRK, who liked the idea. We had written seven of the ten scripts and were waiting for the final green light. “That’s when the coronavirus broke out,” he recalled.
The project was postponed and the script also had to be revised. “The actual pandemic showed us that it was much more stupid and irrational than we had imagined, and we felt we had to rewrite it.”
Perle said the idea for a virus that attacks the human brain and makes people stupid came from NRK executive producer Marit Store Valeur. “That immediately created an additional layer to the apocalypse theme with mindless zombies wandering around and acting like children.”
For Parle, mixing genres was a no-brainer.
“If you want real comedy, you need real drama. You have to believe in the characters in the moment to actually care for them. And in order for the audience to buy into the moment, the zombies are I wanted the moments to be very scary and very sad. You can combine genres if you know what you’re doing,” he said.
“It all starts with character,” Westness said. “If they feel real and have goals and objectives, it becomes a lot easier because you start to see the world from their perspective. Then the plot mechanics and drama come first.” Masu.”
For the director, balancing comedy and drama is a tightrope walk. “Sometimes the drama takes up too much space and the comedy disappears, and vice versa. It’s difficult, but I think it’s more interesting.”
Asked if preparations were being made for a return to the season, Perle and Westness said “we have a lot of ideas,” but nothing has been confirmed. “When it comes to feature films, the premise is in place,” Perle added.
Primitives is also involved in Seafood TV’s series Fling, a romantic drama about failure and failure, and in competition at the 2023 Festival de la Fiction de la Rochelle, What Happened to Solveig. I am also in charge of
