The QCinema Project Market, the industry platform for the QCinema International Film Festival in the Philippines, concluded its second edition with grants and co-production support distributed to multiple projects in the region.
Anak Alon (Daughters of the Sea) directed by Martica Ramírez Escobar, Rock Rocks in Heaven, The Hit Help Us directed by Eve Buswell, and Inahin directed by Sonny Calvento. Three Filipino projects in “Idiot” each won a market-high $34,000 Philippine co-production grant. ” (Maybe my mother).
The Myanmar-Indonesian co-production film “The Beer Girl in Yangon,” directed by Sein Liang Tun, has won a Southeast Asia Co-Production Grant worth $17,000. Additional co-production grants of $12,000 each were awarded to Singaporean director Daniel Hui’s “Other People’s Dreams” and Malaysian director Ananth Subramaniam’s “The Passport.”
Joel Ruiz’s “Angel De Dios” won the Mochachai Award, which included $50,000 worth of post-production services. Kenneth Dagatan’s “Molder” won the Kongchak Studio Award and secured $10,000 worth of healthy post-production services.
CMB Discovery supported multiple projects with equipment rental support, including five $17,000 grants and eight additional $13,500 grants to projects in the Philippines. Barebones awarded color correction grants worth $14,000 each to four projects, and Central Digital Lab provided two $10,000 color correction packages.
The two-day market in Quezon City showcased 20 novel projects selected from 70 submissions from across Southeast Asia. The event facilitated one-on-one meetings between filmmakers and international production companies.
Q Cinema Project Market Managing Director Riza Dino Seguerra said the market is designed to “facilitate cross-border collaboration and co-production opportunities between Filipino, Southeast Asian, and international filmmakers.” It will continue to be an important platform.”
