Phil Collins’ health has been a concern for fans in recent years.
That’s because he suffered a spinal injury in 2007 that limited his mobility.
According to recent reports, Collins is still able to walk with the help of a cane. But sources close to the rock legend say he can no longer play the drums.
Phil Collins dodges questions about health
Collins himself has remained silent about his condition.
When concerns are raised, he tends to dismiss them as a joke. In 2022, for example, Collins appeared with his Genesis bandmates in a concert billed as the band’s “last ever show.”
Although he never stood behind a drum kit, he sang, played the tambourine, and joked that he should now “get a real job.”
But many of those who know Mr. Collins best are far more serious when discussing issues related to his health.
Collins Friends Express Concern
in a recent interview telegraph paperformer Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett “showed visible emotion” when asked about his former bandmate.
“I mean, God, I’ll always love Phil,” Hackett said.
“I’m sorry, I have no words. He didn’t deserve what happened to him.”
Genesis bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks were also on stage for Genesis’ final show. Phil’s son Nick took over the drum duties.
“You know, Phil’s been a little…less mobile than he was before, which is unfortunate, but he’s been fine on tour,” Rutherford recently said of Collins’ condition.
“He’s doing well at home now and enjoying life. And he’s worked hard over the years. I think he’s having fun at home.”
Phil’s self-evaluation
Phil last spoke in detail about his condition in 2007 during an interview on BBC Breakfast.
“I can barely hold a stick with this hand, so there’s a physical obstacle,” he revealed at the time.
“It’s very frustrating because I’m a bit physically challenged. I wanted to play there with my son.”

Sadly, it doesn’t look like Phil will be returning to the stage anytime soon.
Thankfully, he still has a lot to live for, including the love and support of his five children. One of those children emily in paris Star Lily Collins is now hugely popular in her own right.
And of course, Phil can spend the rest of his days reflecting on one of the most influential careers in rock history.
