Patrick Mahomes Sr. Police video available of trying to get out of DWI stop using son’s name earlier this year — obtained by TMZ Sports — The elderly Mahomes is shown repeatedly telling police that his arrest would likely damage the Chiefs star and his team’s Super Bowl III appearance.
It all goes back to Feb. 3, when authorities in Tyler, Texas, arrested Mahomes Sr. after they allegedly drove a white four-door Genesis that was not registered.
Initially, Mahomes Sr., wearing a hat with his son’s branding and a “Kansas City vs. Everybody” sweatshirt, appeared cooperative and friendly toward officers. Police video shows him handing over all the information and documents the officer wanted, including an opened can of Coors Light that he kept in a cup holder in the center console.
He also admitted to drinking “a few beers” before getting behind the wheel, the video shows, and was polite during field sobriety tests afterwards.
But one time he appeared to stumble on a test, so a policeman slapped him on the cuffs…his demeanor changed noticeably.
Mahomes Sr. can be heard asking on the officer’s body camera, “Are you guys serious?” …before he says to them, “I’m going to the Super Bowl to watch my son’s football game and this is what we’re doing?”
Seconds later, after being placed in a squad car, he repeatedly begged officers to release the quarterback for his son and the Feb. 11 championship game against the 49ers.
“Can I tell you something?” Mahomes Sr. asked. “My son is getting ready to play in the goddamn Super Bowl, right? Listen, I’m not drunk, I promise. I’ve had a few drinks, but now… I can’t drink.’ Listen, that’s not possible. ”
Minutes later, Mahomes Sr. can be heard saying to the arresting officer: And now this shit is on the news and it’s going to embarrass him, and it’s probably going to embarrass him. ”
“And he’s probably not going to win a Super Bowl, but that’s fine. If that’s what people want to do, that’s fine.”
Despite all of Mahomes Sr.’s efforts, law enforcement still took him to a nearby prison, where a blood test revealed his BAC level was 0.23, authorities claimed.
The 54-year-old was eventually released hours after his arrest…and attended the big game in Las Vegas later that week, where he was able to watch his son beat San Francisco in an overtime thriller. Ta.
However, Mahomes Sr. was charged with a crime. DWI Felony A third time — and ultimately he received a five-year suspended sentence. reach an agreement with the prosecutor at the end of the summer.
After the sentencing, Mahomes Sr. told reporters that the arrest was an “eye-opener” for him and that he has “not had a drink” since.
