Hello. Welcome to our weekend roundup of what’s new on Netflix for March 8th. We dig into the 22 new movies that hit Netflix this week, plus look at today’s and last week’s top 10, as well as what’s in store for the weekend.
As we explained last Sunday when we covered this week’s upcoming titles, it was set to be much quieter in terms of production, but this week definitely has some surprises and even more Good thing there were some great new releases. Enjoy:
Best new releases on Netflix this weekend
maiden (2024)
evaluation: PG-13
language: English
Genre: action, adventure, fantasy
director: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo
cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, Angela Bassett
Writer: Dan Mazo
runtime: 108 minutes / 1 hour 48 minutes
One of Netflix’s big-budget fantasy films arrived on Netflix today. stranger things Starring Millie Bobby Brown.
The story is about a princess who believes she is being groomed to marry a handsome prince, only to find out that she has been sold into a river to be trapped in a cave with a fire-breathing dragon.
Our review, published this morning by Andrew Morgan, was less kind, stating that the film essentially wasted Millie Bobby Brown, who is currently at the peak of her career. Morgan concluded:
“Damsel is a very average, very thin, and often boring role for fans of Millie Bobby Brown’s previous Netflix work. The message is in the right places, but it’s a bit too much for a character you don’t know. I can’t ride it.”
your lucky day (2023)
evaluation: R
language: English
Genre: thriller
director: and brown
cast: Angus Cloud, Elliot Knight, Jessica Garza
Writer: and brown
runtime: 89 minutes / 1 hour 29 minutes
As we reported yesterday, your lucky day is making its SVOD debut on Netflix US today (meaning it’s the first time it’s available as part of a subscription). This film marks one of the last films of young actor Angus Cloud, who sadly passed away under the most tragic circumstances last year.
Here’s what you can expect from the film, which was released to rave reviews late last year.
“After a fight over a winning lottery ticket turns into a deadly hostage situation, witnesses reveal how far they will go and how much blood they are prepared to shed for their share of $156 million.” You have to decide exactly.”
trend (2015)
evaluation: R
language: Norwegian
Genre: action, drama, thriller
director: Lore Uthaug
cast: Christopher Joner, Ann Dahl Torp, Jonas Hof Oftebro
Writer: John Corr Lake, Harald Rosenloh-Eig, Martin Sandlund
runtime: 105 minutes / 1 hour 45 minutes
If you were or are a fan of Netflix troll (I’m sure quite a few people have seen it, as it received a sequel order and ranks highest among most-watched non-English films). In that case you should definitely include trend I quietly returned to Netflix yesterday.
The Norwegian action thriller is about a small community facing imminent destruction by an oncoming tsunami, and it’s up to one geologist to save everyone.
More top titles will be added this week through our Featured Titles roundup.
