Netflix is not moving forward with plans to adapt Rick Riordan’s popular book series The Caine Chronicles into an animated series.
First announced as being in development in September 2020, the adaptation will be based on the work of prolific author Rick Riordan, who is behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians (currently in the second installment). ) and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Trials of Apollo and Daughter of the Depths.
The first blog post reads, “An exciting announcement posted on social media regarding The Caine Chronicles.” “We’re developing a feature film series at Netflix!” We’ve been working on this deal since October of last year, around the same time we started developing Percy. And I’m very happy to be able to announce it now. That’s all we can say for now, but please wait. We will answer some questions during the Tower of Nero tour event. ”
Since that post, I have provided semi-regular updates on developments on social media. As mentioned in the show’s main preview, the show’s most recent update was in August 2022, with Deandra Pendleton-Thompson actively working on revising the Red Pyramid script. Posted.
“This week I’ll also be receiving the latest draft of Deandra Pendleton-Thompson’s script for The Caine Chronicles: Red Pyramid, and I can’t wait to read it!” They’ve done a great job with all of their films, so I’m even more excited to move forward with this project at Netflix. ”
Since then, there has been silence regarding the current status of the film.
Although Riordan is refreshingly open with fans about how the industry he operates in and is honest about providing timely updates, he told GoodReads that there are no plans for the project to move forward at this time. Ta.
In response to a question from a book site, the author was asked about the status of adaptations of The Caine Chronicles and Magnus Chase. He replied:
“Currently, The Caine Chronicles is in a period of ‘change of direction,’ meaning Netflix has decided not to move forward and after two years of effort to develop a script they liked, that option has expired. Now it’s up to another studio to step in, cover the pre-production costs and move on. This is not at all unusual. I think the same thing probably happens with most film projects. Additionally, the entire streaming industry is currently scaling back its development schedules, canceling more content and producing less content. Despite the huge success of Percy TV, Kane was caught up in the trend. ”
Of course, this is disappointing news, but sadly, this is a fact of life when it comes to television and film projects. We often hear stories of projects not getting the green light, or titles being shelved after filming.
