director David Morrow After a panned 2008 American remake, the film has seen a resurgence in horror. eye Young Adult Thrillers of 2017 Alone. Mad SIt debuted at this year’s Fantastic Fest. It’s a continuous-shot nightmare, a fast-paced, apocalyptic adrenaline rush. Moreau returns to his roots as a filmmaker, having shocked the horror world with his 2006 film, “The New French Extremity.” they (Ilse He overcame the enormous challenge of making us believe we were watching an uninterrupted shoot and starred in the film Apollo XI (French). Mad S It was shot in five takes over five days.but you’d never know it. Moreau’s control of perpetual motion is a one-sided descent into infectious madness, highlighting some fantastic performances as we watch the beginning of humanity’s apocalypse in real time.
MadS was chaotic from the start
This experience was a romantic experience for the 18-year-old.Milton Richie), a lively boy, is given a new drug by his dealer and drinks it down. Romain has recently graduated and the evening is meant to be a celebratory evening, but a bandaged woman climbs into his parked car. The bleeding hitchhiker is in distress and, in a panic, Romain tries to help her, but she dies. With the body in Romain’s car, he receives a phone call from his father, who lives far away, asking for his girlfriend, Anaïs (Laurie Pavvy) is heading to his house. All of this happens within the first few minutes. Moreau wastes no time in plunging the audience into inexplicable confusion. But that’s just a taste of the hallucinatory madness Roman is about to encounter.
It’s a mathematical equation that goes beyond the film. New Life meet climax meet Run Lola, runMoreau examines the outbreak of a contagion at the molecular level and chooses to set a few characters caught up in what is presumed to be a global event. Viewers who want more explanation than what Romain and his close acquaintances experienced may be frustrated, but there is a natural horror inherent in such a personal apocalyptic story. More widespread apocalyptic stories usually begin when civilization collapses and can take advantage of the “good stuff” of zombie battles and survivor battles. But Moreau prefers intimate nightmares with no answers. It’s there that the real horror lies, as the everyday life of people drawing lines on toilet bars and chatting about romantic dramas quickly changes to that of fleeing armed soldiers trying to contain the revelation of an unknown catastrophe with their bullets.
Intimacy defines Mad SThe murders are not just biting, tearing, or overturning. Roman’s exchange with the escaped woman (who spits blood in his face) is something sinister. Eduardo Sanchez and Greg Hale“Journey in the Dark” corner V/H/S/2. Mad S The film offers no answer to the mass effect, and we are forced to sit and watch as Roman succumbs to the disease as it spreads through partygoers, the French countryside, and the heart of the metropolis. The pain, physical suffering, and subsequent dementia that dominate the story are sublime flavors of crushing inevitability, and Moreau never slacks. As the film opens, a runaway train crashes through an obstacle and the conductor laughs in the audience’s faces.
“MadS” brings together a fantastic cast of horror actors
Mad S Invest in three young actors who deliver flawless performances when called upon to shine. In one shot, the camera is glued to the actors, so the passing element never gets boring. Milton Richie, the easy-going playboy, draws us into the intrigue, hinting at the infectious hormonal effects he inadvertently brings to a packed house party. He is our first guide, and on the other side, Lucille GuillaumeJulia in “The Last Journey” closes her door as France crumbles around her as she frantically tries to get home on her scooter to protect her mother. Ritchie excels in subtly (and not-so-subtly) succumbing to the virus’s angry actions, while Guillaume is a panicked survivor trying to avoid infection. Julia’s reaction to a burning world is outstanding. Call Me By Your NameThe bizarre ending will stir the souls of horror fans. But what about the middle part? Mad S It shines.
Laurie Pavy’s evolution into an apex predator in Mad S is one of my favorite horror performances I’ve seen recently. She Jane Levy in evil dead or Toni Collette in HereditaryShe is totally immersed in her raging animalistic qualities. As the infected lose consciousness, her personality changes from scared girl to LSD-addled Purge Night. Everything she does is done with the utmost effort, from licking absentmindedly at a street lamp to yelling “Mommy” to skipping and giggling at innocent bikers, Deadite-like aggression, humanizing despite her inhuman outbursts, twitching. Pavi’s performance is genre perfection.
David Morrow didn’t need a ton of deaths to make ‘MadS’ memorable
Moreau manages to drown audiences in waves of horror without causing mass deaths.Genuine terror is interspersed among bass-thumping, demonic character studies, and the cinematographer Philip Lozano‘s twisted voyeur camera follows everything from the madmen in the galloping Mad S to Romain’s convertible. The techniques used are multifaceted and subversive for countless reasons, even the digital effect of Romain driving as if the film’s title frames the road. Once you put the key in the ignition, there’s no stopping Moreau’s ambitious, rocket-like interpretation of a Day Zero apocalypse story. It’s artistic, greedy, limitless, and a way to honour the spirit of the New French Extremity movement. Mad S It’s a horror experience that makes you feel like you’re revisiting the genre. What a wonderful feeling that is.
Mad S It will premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024. It will be available to stream on Shudder from October 18th.
