“Persidas” becomes interested in Cata, a famous chef living in Uruguay who returns to Spain for his mother’s funeral. Upon arrival, she discovers that her mother is actually still alive and has been tricked back into the house to attend her father’s funeral. Despite the deep wounds between the two, Kata must confront her past in order to reconcile with her roots.
“When we read the script, we were completely hooked on the story and the characters,” says Laporta. “We were particularly moved by the highly emotional story of the return and reconciliation of a mother and daughter.
“We believe that by working with emotional authenticity, we can achieve a level of universality that allows emotions such as reunion and forgiveness to be expressed movingly anywhere in the world,” says the producer. added.
Some scenes in the film will be shot in La Sierra’s hometown of Candasnos, a desert pueblo of just 300 people in Los Monegros, Aragon state.
“There’s a whole generation in these rural areas who grew up as teenagers in the ’90s and were forced to migrate,” La Sierra said. “As happened in the mid-20th century, we left our villages in search of a future with more possibilities. I wrapped the protagonist of this film in that light.”

Perseidas also marks the feature debut of Laporta and her Aragon-based label Lago&Laporta. She is joined by her partner Aurora Lago Villalon and veteran producer Luis Ángel Ramírez of Invar Productions. The two companies will jointly produce the film.
“When I first discovered Persidas in the project incubator at the Aragon Advanced Technology Center, I instantly fell in love,” Ramirez recalls. “The production is artistically ambitious and commercially appealing due to the universal nature of the story and the individuality of the director and producers. The project has grown since then, strengthened by a great cast, and the characters and Perseidas follows in the footsteps of the films that have established Spanish cinema as one of the most influential artistic standards of our time.
Ahead of its next visit to Ventana Sur, the project also participated in Spain’s Abyssin Lanza and VLC Pitch Lab, as well as the Mallorca Talent Lab, where it won the Best Project Award.
Filming for “Perseidas” is scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026, with the film expected to be released later that year.
