The 30th anniversary of the original animated film version of “The Lion King” will be celebrated next month at the Hollywood Bowl with a live-to-film concert/screening featuring cast members from the movie, theatrical version and beyond. . Including Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, Billy Eichner, Ernie Sabella, Jason Weaver, and Bradley Gibson.
The show will take place at the Bowl May 24-25 and is produced by Disney Concerts, Fulwell 73 Productions, AMP Worldwide and Live Nation Hewitt Silva.

“Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ 30th Anniversary – Live to Film Concert Event” will feature Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-winning music for the 1994 classic, conducted by Sarah Hicks. A full orchestra will perform. But the film’s long tail will also be part of the celebration. The cast members who sing the musical numbers written for the film by Elton John and Tim Rice are drawn from the Broadway hit that began in 1998, the 2019 film remake, and the world of the first film.
The 1994 version stars Irons (who created the evil role of Scar), Lane (who played the comical Timon), Ernie Sabella (the original Pumbaa), and Jason Weaver (who played Young Simba). Appear. Gibson represents the Broadway incarnation (he played Simba on stage), and Eichner brings back memories of the 2019 remake (he voiced Timon on screen).
Hudson has never previously worked on the various incarnations of “The Lion King.” But even though all of the voice acting cast are mostly male, the opening number calls for a strong female voice, so it’s not hard to start playing the guessing game where she fits.
Especially knowing that Hudson sang “Circle of Life” when she rose to fame by competing on “American Idol” in Season 3, so take an educated guess as to what she’ll do. It’s easy to do.
Additional celebrity performers are also expected to be announced, concert officials said. Other performers will be selected from the current version of the stage production, in addition to the full choir. Costumes, set design, and puppetry are also borrowed from the Broadway/touring version.
The event will be held in advance of the December 20 release of Walt Disney Studios’ prequel Mufasa: The Lion King, which, like the 2019 version, will be “live-action” (in this case, ” (meaning “live-action”). A particularly photorealistic brand of animation (and not an actual singing lion). Eichner will reprise his role as Timon from the remake from five years ago in the upcoming prequel. Directed by Barry Jenkins. The trailer was praised for its positive reviews at CinemaCon last week.
Disney and Fulwell 73 previously collaborated on the Emmy Award-winning Disney+ livestream concert “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” as well as the 2022 concert “Disney They teamed up for “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl”. It’s now a Disney+ special. It appears that similar plans are being planned for the “Lion King” commemorative concert in May, but no intention has been announced for making it into a movie.
