Morgan Wallen’s smash hit “Last Night” continues to be performed after the song was named song of the year at the 72nd BMI Country Awards held at the organization’s headquarters in Nashville on Tuesday night. monopolized all rights organization awards. BMI’s most played song of the year was co-written by BMI writers John Byron and Charlie Handsome.
Songwriter of the Year honors were tied between Chase McGill and Zach Bryan, with each songwriter co-writing six of BMI’s most performed songs in this category. All six of Brian’s songs were recorded by himself, including “Burn Burn Burn”, “Dawns”, “Hey Driver”, “I Remember Everything”, “Oklahoma Smokeshow”, and “Sun to Sun”. He is the screenwriter for “Me”. ” McGill is known for Morgan Wallen’s “Ain’t That Some,” Luke Bryan’s “But I Got a Beer in My Hand,” Connor Smith’s “Creek Will Rise,” and Russell Dickerson’s “God Gave Me a She co-wrote “Girl”. Davis’ “Next Thing You Know” and Thomas Rhett’s “Mama’s House.”
Warner Tamerlane Publishing was named Publisher of the Year for publishing 34 of BMI’s 50 most-performed songs of the year.
The evening’s musical performance was in honor of BMI Icon Award winner Randy Owen of the group Alabama. Artists who paid tribute to Owen were Riley Greene’s “My Homes in Alabama,” Luke Bryan’s “Feels So Right,” and Blake Shelton’s “Mountain Music.”
The night started with a non-Alabama song. A group performance of “With a Little Help from My Friends” by Ella Langley, Lukas Nelson and Aaron Reitele honored the country community’s philanthropy throughout the year.
The roll includes Wallen’s “Last Night,” which was named song of the year by ASCAP the night before BMI presented its own award of that name. The hit spent 16 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and there probably wasn’t much competition for either organization’s top honor.
