In surprising news for many royal watchers, late last year Duchess Kate apparently called Meghan Markle to “clear the air.”
But guess what? Honestly, there’s been so much drama between these two that it’s hard to keep track.
And did she make this call before knowing about the surgery? Was that the prompt?

Kate and Duchess Meghan’s conflict
The call reportedly came on the heels of a bizarre series of events in which Duchess Kate was accused of making racist comments to Meghan shortly after her marriage to Prince Harry.
A book by journalist and longtime Sussex supporter Omid Scobie details the incident, which Meghan first mentioned in a 2021 interview with Oprah.
Meghan said that while she was pregnant with her first child, members of the royal family joked and expressed concerns about the color of her baby’s skin.
Scobie’s book omits the names of the perpetrators, but the Dutch version is said to name Kate and Charles as the royals who made the offensive comments.
“Right after the allegations about the book came out, Kate reached out to Meghan to clear the air,” a source said. Communicate weekly (via mirror).
But sources say this wasn’t Kate’s idea.
“After William refused, Charles forced Kate to become a peacemaker.”

Sources confirmed previous claims that Kate made the call on Charles’ behalf.
“She agreed, because Duchess Kate has always taken her duties seriously when it comes to the royal family. She does everything she’s told,” the source said.
“This feud has gotten so ugly and out of control that it’s starting to cast a shadow over his reign and the monarchy as a whole. He wants to mend the rift once and for all.”

We may never know whether Kate was successful in her efforts to repair her relationship with Meghan. There were similar reports that Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry extended an olive branch after hearing about Duchess Kate’s surprise surgery.
However, we do know that when Prince Harry came to the UK to visit his father after his cancer diagnosis, he did not visit with Kate or his brother.
In the meantime, there is still much curiosity as to how such sensitive information found its way into Scobee’s book.
“My name wasn’t on the books I wrote, edited, or signed,” Dutch editor Sander Uitgevers said in an interview with the BBC.
“The only publisher I worked directly with was one that covered the US and UK.”
The scandal briefly made front-page news, but has since been overshadowed by worrying developments within the royal family.
How are Kate and Meghan doing today?
Duchess Kate was hospitalized under mysterious circumstances in January, but there have been few updates on the Princess of Wales’ health.
Palace officials insist it was just a routine abdominal surgery, but conspiracy theorists believe there is something more serious going on.
Sources recently revealed that Duchess Meghan has contacted Duchess Kate to pray for her recovery.
So maybe Kate really was able to mend fences over the phone in December.
Either way, the royal family appears to be united in a time of crisis.
