The 2025 Oscars will need a host, as the man who has been at the helm most of the past decade is over.
Jimmy Kimmel announced in the summer of 2024 that fans looking forward to hosting next year’s Academy Awards will not be disappointed.
Kimmel was absent, as was the comedian most thought to be next in line to perform.
So who will host the 2025 Oscars ceremony? Honestly, we’re spoiled for choice, but new rumors suggest there may be two hosts instead of one next year. It means you can’t do it.
Jimmy Kimmel gives up hosting job at Oscars
The late night star has hosted the Oscars four times in the past decade, hosting Hollywood’s biggest night in 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024.
In an interview a few months after his last show, Jimmy revealed that he would not be returning in 2025. As it turned out, the gig came at too high a cost.
“I just decided I didn’t want to deal with that this year,” Kimmel said.
“Last year was too much. We ended up postponing everything until after the Oscars, and everything we promised to do after the Oscars, we have to do after the Oscars. We did it for two years. [2017 and 2018]it worked. 2 more years left [2023 and 2024]it worked. I thought I’d take a little break. ”
Most of the things he “postponed” had to do with his own show. jimmy kimmel livedespite his talk of leaving late at night, he still loves it.
“I’m not good at balancing, I really am,” he added.
“That’s not one of my strengths. When it comes to things like the Oscars, I’m all in. I think about it in the morning and at night, and when an idea comes to me, I want to work on it. , which makes the night’s show seem like a chore. All the writers on the show are working on the Oscars, so it’s fun to do, and it feels good when it goes well. It’s nice, but for me, doing it three years in a row was too much.”
John Mulaney also leaves
After Jimmy Kimmel stepped down from hosting the Oscars in 2025, it was rumored that comedian John Mulaney was the next person to approach him.
One of the highlights of the 2024 show was John’s “Field of Dreams” segment during the Best Sound award ceremony. Additionally, he served as the Master of Ceremonies for the Governor’s Awards.
No matter how you looked at it, he was a dishonest person. However, John declined the offer due to his tight schedule juggling so many different projects.
We’re sorry to hear that “Everybody’s in LA” is being renewed by Netflix.
Who will host the 2025 Oscars?
So what happens to us? I’m glad you asked!
The truth is, the door is open for great talent to step in and take the reins. The obvious choices are those who have previously hosted the show and could make a triumphant comeback.
Whoopi Goldberg is tied with Kimmel for the number of times she’s hosted the show (also four), and since she’s taking a break from The View anyway, she could easily extend her hiatus. There is sex. (Plus, she’s on ABC, so there’s some synergy!
You can also look to Ellen DeGeneres. She claims she will be leaving Hollywood for good after her current stand-up tour. What better way to say goodbye than with the ultimate stand-up gig in Hollywood? Additionally, her icon selfie could use an update.
Both are potential candidates, but here are the top candidates for live shows that are currently being talked about.
Hugh Jackman is the frontrunner to host the 2025 Oscarswith Ryan Reynolds
Hugh hosted the Oscars in 2009, and it remains one of the most beloved openings in the show’s history. Additionally, he appeared as one half of the movie in some of the year’s biggest blockbusters. deadpool and wolverine. It ticks a lot of boxes. But maybe this time, he’ll swap Beyoncé and Taylor Swift to perform together! (Bey doesn’t care, he just wants to see Taylor just once, you know!)
In fact, the rumors from there are deadline The plan is to ensure the inclusion of both Hugh and Ryan as part of the star ensemble of rotating hosts. But to be honest, that might be too confusing. It’s best to stick to the idea of them being together or Hugh being solo.
maya rudolph and Kristen Wiig would be the dream team
Finally, let’s give Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the dream team of the 2010s. We always talk about the gifts we gave together and other little things the next morning. Plus, don’t forget that Maya is scheduled to guest star as Kamala Harris on SNL in the run-up to the 2024 election. She will be available! (Apple+ – Clear your schedule!)
That said, Deadline reports that Amy Poehler’s name has been thrown around as the sole host. She was starring in the biggest animated film of the year (inside out 2) and she has proven to be a competent host. But without Tina? Do we all really want that?
Chris Rock: Triumphant return?
Think of a headline! Chris Rock hosted in 2005 and 2016 and remains as popular as ever, but bringing him back to crime scenes would be a huge deal. That means it will be his first return to the Oscars since he received a shocking slap from Will Smith during the 2022 ceremony.
Billy Crystal is our top choice
The only person to host more Oscars than Billy Crystal (nine) is Bob Hope (19). And frankly, no one has done it better than Billy. He’s a true showman. interesting. musical. Politics at just the right time. And the number 9 is just an odd number. I’d give this guy a 10. Also, I feel like we need a legend this year. Anyone not satisfied with anything more than canceling the show’s opening will be the talk of the town the next day! Currently, there is talk that he is “too old” for live performances. Nonsense! Do you know who SNL’s best guest host of the past 20 years has been? Betty White. And by that time she was well into her 80s!
