It made history – Jake Paul won Netflix’s first-ever live boxing event against Mike Tyson, which was streamed worldwide last night. Netflix has certainly stepped up its efforts when it comes to live streaming, but buffering and technical issues plagued the event, making it completely unwatchable on some devices, including web browsers. This is the night’s report.
Discovery seemed to have no issues most of the time, and most Netflix users were able to instantly access the main carousel battles (on a new load, anyway).
Downdetector also recorded the issue, with a spike of more than 6,000 outage reports. Online, you’ll find countless complaints about audio lag, poor quality streams (many were tapped out at 720p), and constant buffering. In one instance, buffering resulted in a fairly selective moment where Tyson’s butt was frozen on screen.

Our comments section was full of disappointed Netflix users who faced buffering issues and other technical issues. One person said: The main event just buffers at 25% many times and can’t even stream properly and keeps giving me an error code. I also have the fastest 5G network other than Verizon, and Netflix can’t even properly broadcast live performances. ”
Another wrote in our comments: “It’s a shame that Netflix couldn’t iron out all the bugs before this live event. You might lose a lot of customers and you’ll have to be proud on Christmas Day.” What will happen to the live soccer broadcast?
However, not all technology was bad. When working properly, I found that the subtitles didn’t lag unduly even though I typed live, and the seamless transition to the different audio options was a great experience.
How to watch Netflix boxing match highlights
Unfortunately, Netflix doesn’t currently offer highlights within the app, so you’ll have to manually scrub through over four hours of content to find what you’re specifically looking for. Why isn’t there a highlights pullout that lets me skip to interesting sections?
Replays are especially hard to find for some reason. If you type “Jake Paul” or “Mike Tyson” into the search bar, you won’t see replays of live events. Instead, a direct link is required.
