The family of the man who was beaten unconscious outside a West Hollywood nightclub is hoping to find the suspect who inflicted life-threatening injuries on Alberto Vasquez.
The incident occurred on the night of April 5th. The 53-year-old was celebrating in West Hollywood’s vibrant Rainbow District, his family said. Vasquez was at the Heart Weho nightclub. The victim left around 8 p.m. to meet a friend nearby but never arrived.
A passerby found Vasquez unconscious in the parking lot next to the nightclub. Vazquez suffered serious injuries as a result of the altercation, but the suspect has not been identified.
Vazquez was hospitalized for five days until his family found him. A nurse at Cedars Sinai Medical Center responded to a cell phone call from her family and informed them of what had happened.
Vazquez’s family and friends say he was a talented hairstylist who worked with celebrity clients and even flew to places like New York and Paris to fix their clients’ hair.
Vazquez now faces a long road to recovery after sustaining life-threatening injuries. He underwent brain surgery for injuries sustained in the assault. Doctors had to remove part of Vasquez’s skull because his brain was swollen.
“It was a punch to the face. You can tell it hit him in the eye,” Vasquez’s sister, Gloria Jimenez, told KTLA’s Chris Wolf. “They fractured his skull around his eye socket.”
Vasquez’s family and friends are still looking for answers as to why someone did this to the 53-year-old, but his sister said she believes it was a hate crime.
“We feel this is gay bashing,” Jimenez said. “He wasn’t robbed.”
No suspects have been identified and no information was provided about a possible motive.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Office at 310-855-8850.
