We have received an update regarding the tragic death of Drake Hogestyn.
As previously reported, the popular soap opera actor passed away at the age of 70 at the end of September.
Hogestyn was best known for playing John Black on Days of Our Lives for nearly 40 years.
Well, on the other hand, we can report that Hogestyn dies of pancreatic canceraccording to the death certificate obtained by People magazine.
Other contributing factors to his death included vomiting, dehydration, and systemic toxicity.
The actor was cremated at Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, and no post-mortem was performed.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” a statement from the Hogestyn family posted on the Days of Our Lives Instagram account about two weeks ago read.
“After an incredible battle, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.”
The actor’s family also expressed their love for the record, saying what a memorable artist Hogestyn was and someone who meant so much to his family and to the cast, crew and production team of Days of Our Lives. We united our voices to mourn.
“He was the most amazing husband, father, dad and actor,” the message added.
“He loved performing in front of Days audiences and sharing the stage with some of the best cast, crew and production teams in the industry. We love him and will forever miss him. Sho.”
Hogestyn made his debut on Days of Our Lives in 1986 in the enigmatic role of “The Pawn,” but became popular for his role as John Black.
Star and former co-star Deirdre Hall, who played Malena Evans, won a Soap Opera Digest Award in 2005 for “The Favorite Couple.”
“Drake was a wonderful man. He was funny, generous, and thoughtful,” colleague Alison Sweeney wrote on Instagram.
“He cared about every scene and every person. He loved Days and the fans, and he shared that passion with everyone on set. My heart breaks for his family. They were everything to him. He was such a huge part of my life at Days.
“I miss him so much and cherish every story, every joke, and every hug.”
