miami – Hollywood Police are searching for the person who allegedly injured the dog.
On Sunday, April 7th, Hollywood Police Department officers responded to Sunshine Animal Hospital in the 9800 block of Pines Boulevard in reference to an incident of animal cruelty.
Officers were notified around 6:30 a.m. April 5 that the Stafford Terrier mix was found near 6124 Madison Street.
“We got a call saying there was a dog that had been stabbed with a machete or was seriously injured,” said Cindy Muchaccio of I Heart Animal Rescue.
Officials said the dog had large lacerations on its back and appeared to be in distress.
“He had stitches on his back. I think the dog will need further treatment,” Hollywood Police Officer Deanna Betineschi said.
“We already have a $4,500 vet bill and the dog also had a torn anterior cruciate ligament. We know it’s very expensive,” Muchaccio said.
CBS News Miami has learned that the cost of the surgery could be well over $10,000.
The Brady Hunter Foundation is currently paying for the dog’s medical care and injuries.
“We were deeply saddened to hear of this innocent animal who was the victim of such cruel and brutal acts,” said Paige Breckie of the Brady Hunter Foundation. Ta.
Muchaccio added: “I think it’s horrible that someone would abuse a dog, stab a dog, shoot a dog. It’s just unfathomable.”
Hollywood Police are asking for the community’s assistance.
