Denzel Washington may have said the same-sex kiss in Gladiator II was cut from the movie because the powers that be were “chicken,” but director Ridley Scott says the kiss may not have happened at all It is said that there is.
“No, that’s bullshit,” Scott told me Monday night at the premiere of “Gladiator II” in Hollywood. He later added: They acted in the moment and it didn’t happen. ”
Washington, on the other hand, claimed it was just a “peck” on the lips. “It’s really a lot of fuss about nothing,” Washington said at the premiere. “They’re taking advantage of it even more than before. I kissed his hand, pecked him, and killed him.”
In a recent interview with Gatey, Washington revealed, “I actually kissed a guy in the movie, but I think they took it out, cut it up, and fed me chicken.” I kissed guys a lot on the lips, but I don’t think they were ready for that yet. It killed him after about 5 minutes. It’s “Gladiator.” It’s the kiss of death. ”
The script for Gladiator II mentions that Washington’s character Macrinus had relationships with other men in the past.
On Sunday night at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles, Connie Nielsen, who reprises her role as Lucilla in the “Gladiator” sequel, shared her thoughts on the cut of Washington’s same-sex kiss scene.
“My grief scenes also didn’t make it into the movie,” Nielsen told me. “It’s not homophobia. There just wasn’t room for it.”
Producer Michael Prus added: “There were a lot of things that were shot that didn’t make it into the movie. It was really just something that happened.”
Paul Mescal, who stars as Lucius (the son of the character played by Russell Crowe in the original 2000 film), recently told Attitude magazine that the film will appeal to a diverse audience. “I think this movie is for men, gays, women, mothers and fathers,” he said, adding, “My brothers will love it too, don’t get me wrong.”
Nielsen also talked about mezcal at the Governor’s Awards. “He’s such a great actor,” she said. “It’s incredible how much he’s accomplished in such a short period of time. I think he’s a really talented person, not just as an artist, but as a human being. The fact that he can withstand the pressure of his species is admirable and amazing, and he’s a lovely guy.”
“Gladiator II” opens in theaters on Friday.
