Danny Masterson has moved prison again.
The “That 70’s Show” actor, who was convicted of raping two women 20 years ago and sentenced to life in prison last September, was released from North Kern State Prison in California on Jan. 29. He was transferred to Corcoran State Prison, but after less than two weeks in the maximum security facility, he was transferred again to the Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, California, Deadline reported.
Masterson was transferred last week over concerns about the “well-being of inmates” during the 20-year stay at Corcoran where notorious cult leader Charles Manson lived until his death in 2017.
The Men’s Colony is a medium-minimum-security facility where inmates have “opportunities for advanced academic education, career/technical education, and personal development,” according to a description on the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation website. It says, “It will be done.” Programs include cognitive behavioral therapy programs, substance abuse education, criminal thinking, anger management, family relationships, and more. ”
Mr Masterson was refused bail last month pending appeal over concerns he had “every motive to flee”.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo wrote, “If the defendant’s conviction and sentence are upheld on appeal, he will likely remain incarcerated for decades and possibly the rest of his life.” Dew.
“Given the fact that the defendant has no wife to return to, the defendant has every motive to flee and little reason to return to state prison to serve the remainder of his lengthy sentence if his appeal is unsuccessful.”
The decision to refuse bail came after he appealed his rape conviction.
His lawyer said last month: “The defendant is asking this court to grant him bail on appeal, stating that he will be the parent of the household and the financial provider for the family. “Offers to comply with relevant conditions imposed by the court that may permit him to remain under house arrest and/or participate in an electronic monitoring program administered by the Probation Department.”
They argued he presented a “lack of danger” and was not a flight risk, and claimed they had “extensive exculpatory evidence that has not been presented to the jury.”
