Deliver Me From Nowhere, a new film about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s breakthrough 1982 album Nebraska, has arrived at 20th Century Studios.
Jeremy Allen White of “The Bear” is in talks to play the legendary rocker. The film, written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Hostels), is based on Warren Zane’s 2023 book Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.
Nebraska, the follow-up to Springsteen’s hugely successful album The River, was widely expected to be a rock album by the E Street Band. Instead, it was a gritty solo album made on a four-track recorder. The book and film tell the story of Springsteen’s artistic journey in making records, considered a watershed in his musical journey.
Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vane (the Maze Runner trilogy) and Eric Robinson, Cooper, Zanes and Scott Stuber will serve as producers. Production on the film is scheduled to begin this fall.
Bruce Springsteen and his longtime manager Jon Landau will be involved in the film. David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, said: “It is a once-in-a-lifetime honor to be able to collaborate with Bruce Springsteen, a unique and inspiring artist who represents so much to so many people. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime honor.” “The authenticity of his story rests largely with his friend Scott Cooper, and we are excited to collaborate again.”
“Warren Zane’s ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’ is one of the best books ever written about Bruce Springsteen and his music,” Landau said. “Bruce and I are thrilled that Scott Cooper has chosen to write and direct a film based on the book. We think he is the perfect filmmaker for the job. Scott has assembled a great team, along with Gotham Group producers Ellen Goldsmith Vain and Eric Robinson, and Scott Stuber, to give this project the vision and soul that has been the hallmark of Bruce’s 55-year career. We are trying to ensure that this is reflected. We are thrilled to have the heartfelt dedication and support of 20th and the entire Disney team. ”
“When I first read Warren Zane’s wonderful book, I knew that a beautiful film should be made that captures the human portrait of this iconic artist at key moments in his artistic life,” said Goldsmith-Vane. Robinson said in his book. Joint statement. “We also knew that Scott Cooper was the only filmmaker who could translate this story to film with passion and poetry. Bruce Springsteen of He has been a cultural historian for generations and has made significant contributions to our understanding of the human journey through his art. It is an immense privilege to work with Bruce and Jon Landau, master storytellers Scott Cooper, Scott Stuber and our friends at 20th, and Disney to bring this story to audiences around the world. ”
“I’ve read that ‘Nebraska’ is an album that moves you to the bone. I couldn’t agree more,” Cooper says. “Bruce Springsteen and “Nebraska” in particular had a deep influence on me and my work. Bruce has built an unparalleled legacy by unflinchingly portraying the human condition through themes of despair, disillusionment, and the struggles of everyday Americans. But even in the darkness, a sense of resilience and hope shines through, reflecting an indomitable spirit. That’s the Bruce I’ve come to know and love, and I pay homage to it in this film. Warren Zanes’ brilliant retelling of this chapter of Bruce’s life is ripe for film. The film has the potential to be a transformative cinematic experience, offering audiences a window into the soul of Bruce Springsteen and the universal truths that connect us all. ”
