LOS ANGELES (AP) – Brian Wilson’s management team has put him in a conservatorship, citing his mental decline and the recent death of his wife, Melinda Ledbetter Wilson, who controlled his daily life. I petitioned.
The 81-year-old Beach Boys co-founder and mastermind suffers from a “severe neurocognitive disorder,” according to a doctor’s note accompanying a petition filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. He is said to be taking medication for dementia.
The petition asks a judge to appoint two of Wilson’s longtime representatives, publicist Jean Sievers and manager Lee Ann Hurd, as conservators to oversee his personal and medical decisions. I’m asking you to. Wilson is unable to adequately meet personal needs such as physical health, food, clothing, and shelter. ”
The two women “have had a close relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson for many years and Mr. Wilson trusts them,” the filing said.
The petition states that Ms. Ledbetter (whom her husband credited with stabilizing his famously difficult life) managed his daily needs until her death on January 30. ,it is written like this.

A statement posted to Wilson’s social media accounts Thursday said the move was made in consultation with Wilson, his seven children, caretaker Gloria Ramos and doctors.
“This decision was made to ensure that there were no drastic changes to the household and that Brian and the children living at home were taken care of,” the post said. “Brian is able to enjoy spending time with all of his family and friends, continue working on his current projects, and participate in any activities he chooses.”
California judges can appoint guardians for themselves, their assets (called estates), or both, as in the case of Britney Spears, whose legal battle drew widespread new attention to her legal position.
Mr. Wilson’s petition states that a conservatorship of the estate is not necessary because his assets are held in trust with Mr. Heard as trustee, and seeks only a personal conservatorship.
Deeply respected and highly regarded as a member, producer, arranger, and chief songwriter of the Beach Boys, Wilson suffered from mental health and substance abuse issues in the 1960s that forever changed his career.
He met Ledbetter in the mid-1980s when he was a customer at the car dealership where she worked. At the time, Wilson had been under the close supervision of psychologist Dr. Eugene Lundy for many years.
Ledbetter and others believed that Lundy was exploiting and abusing Wilson, and had a feud with Lundy for years until Lundy was banned from having contact with Wilson in 1992.
Mr. Ledbetter died suddenly on January 30, according to a Wilson spokesperson.
“My five children and I are just in tears. We are lost,” Wilson said on his website. “Melinda was more than my wife. She was my savior.”
