Bonnie Hammer has gone from “This Old House” and “Zoom” to “Monk” and “Mr. He plans to retire after his current contract expires.
Mr. Hammer has been with NBCU since 2004, when Universal Television, once part of Barry Diller’s entertainment empire, merged with the NBC portfolio. She has been in the television industry for nearly 50 years, including stints at Lifetime and Boston’s public television station WGBH. At NBCU, he coordinated the integration of some of the company’s leading TV production studio assets and worked on the launch of the Peacock streaming service.
Those people said the decision not to renew her contract was her own and unrelated to the decision revealed this week to spin off most of NBCU’s cable assets to a separate company.
NBCUniversal declined to make executives available for comment.
Mr. Hammer is perhaps best known for his long-time oversight of the NBCU general entertainment cable network. So her team launched the widely popular “Blue Skies” series, which features optimistic protagonists and provides a contrast to harsher shows in different locations. At FX and HBO, flawed antiheroes anchored shows like “The Sopranos” and “The Shield.” At NBCU’s U.S. cable network, executives launched series such as “Royal Pains,” “Psycho” and “Burn Notice.” Mr. Hammer oversaw America as the most-watched entertainment-focused cable network for 13 consecutive years.
