Barbra Streisand pays tribute to her A Star Is Born co-star Kris Kristofferson on Sunday night following news that the country music legend and actor has passed away at age 88 expressed his intention.
In an Instagram post featuring the A Star Is Born album cover, Streisand reminisced about their time together. “When I first saw Chris perform at the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles, I knew he was something special,” she wrote. “Being barefoot and strumming a guitar seemed like the perfect choice for the script I was developing, which ultimately became A Star Is Born. In the film, Chris and I… I sang the song “Evergreen” that I wrote as the main love theme of the movie. ”
Streisand and Kristofferson’s A Star is Born was released in 1976 and was a huge success, grossing $80 million in North America on a $6 million budget. The film, the third adaptation of the 1937 original starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, tells the story of an unknown singer (Streisand) who falls in love with a rock star (Kristofferson). “Evergreen” won the Oscar for Best Original Song.
The second slide of the post shows a photo of Streisand and Kristofferson at a concert in London’s Hyde Park in 2019, where Kristofferson was a special guest. “I asked Chris to come on stage with me to sing ‘Lost Inside of You,’ another duet from A Star Is Born,” Streisand recalled. “He was as charming as ever and the audience applauded him. It was great to see him getting the recognition and love he so richly deserves.”
Streisand ended her eulogy by sending her thoughts to Kristofferson’s wife, Lisa, who “I know supported him in every way possible.”
