Prince William attended the 77th British Academy Awards in London on Sunday night without his wife, Duchess Kate, who is still recovering from surgery she underwent last month.
Prince William attended the 2024 BAFTAs amid family health issues, admitting he never saw a Barbie doll and had “other things” on his mind.
In recent weeks, the royal family announced shocking news that Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, will undergo surgery for a medical condition and take a break from royal duties from January until after Easter. Charles III also worried his fans last month when it was revealed he had undergone surgery to treat prostate problems. What’s even more concerning is that earlier this month, he shared the news that while undergoing treatment for his prostate, doctors discovered he had a type of cancer, and that he is currently undergoing treatment.
The 77th British Academy Awards ceremony kicked off in London on Sunday night, with A-list stars in attendance. The 41-year-old Prince of Wales was attending the event in his official capacity as BAFTA chairman, a title he has held since 2010. Prince William and his wife, Duchess Kate, attend this glamorous event every year, but this year marks the 42nd time. The older Princess of Wales is still recovering from surgery, so she did not attend the 2024 ceremony.
Prince William looked dashing as he arrived at the ceremony without his wife. He looked smart in a deep navy blue velvet suit and bow tie. According to the Mail Online newspaper, moviegoers who were watching the celebrities attending the ceremony were delighted to see the prince.
They reported that he was overheard telling the audience that he was sad that he didn’t get to see as many of the nominated films as he had hoped, and that he was “preoccupied with other things.” He also said: “It’s a shame Catherine isn’t here. She loves the BAFTAs.” They report that he told a moviegoer that he had seen Oppenheimer, but confessed, “I haven’t seen Barbie yet.”
Last month, Kensington Palace said in a statement that Kate had responded well to treatment for an undisclosed health issue. “The Princess of Wales has returned to her home in Windsor to continue recovering from her surgery. She is recovering well,” the statement said.
“The Prince and Princess would like to express their huge gratitude to the entire team at the London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for their care. The Welsh family remains grateful for the well wishes that have been received from around the world. .”
Earlier this month, stories of King Charles’ battle with cancer were shared at Buckingham Palace. The statement reads: “Another worrying issue was noted during the King’s recent hospital surgery for an enlarged prostate. Subsequent diagnostic tests identified a type of cancer. His Majesty today underwent routine treatment. His Majesty has begun his schedule, but doctors have advised him to postpone official duties during this period. During this period, His Majesty will continue to carry out his state and official duties as normal.
“The King is grateful to the medical team for the rapid intervention made possible thanks to recent hospital procedures. He remains completely positive about his treatment and intends to return to full official duties as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to make his diagnosis public to avoid speculation and in the hope that it will help the public understand the lives of people around the world affected by cancer.”
