Once Alan Ritchson was cast, Reacher studios Amazon and Skydance decided on a target weight for the on-screen character. Its weight was a non-negotiable 235 pounds, which placed it well in the middle of the 220-250 pound scale.
On the Rich Eisen Show, Ritchson revealed that he was not allowed to attend any weigh-ins that were below his 235-pound goal weight. The actor said:
“I was 205 years old when I was cast in the role. […] I had to gain 30 pounds for the role, and I had to be at least 235 pounds, and it was like an order from the studio, “You can’t come on set unless you’re 235 pounds.” Ta. ”
Ritchson was not an expert in physical training. He was a professional model before going into acting, and not only played superhero Hank Hall/Hawk on the MAX (then known as HBO Max) series Titans, but also One of his first big roles was that of Arthur Curry/Aquaman. In “Smallville.” In other words, Ritchson was used to staying in shape. But to achieve the weight Amazon demanded for “Reacher,” the actor pushed himself beyond the limits of anything he’d done before. He continued:
“I had eight months to build a gym at home and work hard. I can’t believe how hard I worked, every day as if my life depended on it. Every hour, every day. Two hours, so. I was able to put on muscle in that amount of time. And I did it without anyone’s help — no steroids, no testosterone, nothing good for my body. So I got through it, but it killed me. I had to hurt my shoulder. I had surgery after the season, and it was tough.”
