Dame Helen Mirren has insisted there is no point in being “upset” over not being nominated for an award.
Although the 78-year-old actress was disappointed that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were not shortlisted for an Academy Award for their work in Barbie, the veteran star was disappointed in the blockbuster hit she narrated. It’s more than any trophy that the author considers to have achieved it can convey.
She told Entertainment Tonight: “Honestly, I can’t be mad about that. The great thing is that Barbie was the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros. history. I don’t remember who won Best Picture. “Do you have it?” The year before last?
“I mean, of course I wanted to meet Greta.” [be nominated]And I think it’s best for her to win [director].
“That’s very difficult. This is not a competition. You know, you can’t do it. Christopher Nolan’s work on ‘Oppenheimer’ was amazing and extraordinary.
“But for me, Greta’s work was so outlandish, so brave, and something I had never seen before.
“I love the fact that the audience reacted the same way they did.”
Helen also confirmed rumors that there was a deleted scene from Barbie where the Crown actress got into a fight with a “drunken” Olivia Colman when she tried to take over the role of narrator.
She said, “I did shoot that scene, yes, I did. I’d like to see it at least once.”
Margot previously claimed she wasn’t too upset about missing out on the Best Actress nomination, as she was happy that Barbie received eight more Oscar nominations.
At the film’s SAG screening in January, she said, “When you know how blessed you are, you can’t be sad.
“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated for director, because what she did was a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, and what she did, it really is.
“But this year has been a great year for all movies.”
