Things started off well for Grimes during her set at Coachella 2024. She entered the Sahara stage in a futuristic walking vehicle that crawled like a spider as she sat in her back seat. However, they soon moved on to electronic singer-songwriters and faced major technical problems during their 50-minute show.
Shortly after the halfway point, Grimes explained that she had to restart the “Music 4 Machine” multiple times, and songs were playing twice as fast as she intended. “It’s hard to explain this, but a major technical error has occurred,” she said, trying to think of a solution on the spot. “Please don’t criticize me because of my poor calculations.”
Grimes said he was trying to calculate the tempo of each queued song in real time to remember it, but was unable to do so in real time. Instead, she decided to perform some unreleased songs, including songs she had recorded in the past few days. She stopped between each track and let out an angry scream that it was “actually not my fault” that the set fell apart. “I’m trying to think. I’m not good enough at math when it comes to this shit,” she said. In the end, she finally led into “Genesis,” but her set was cut short and she exited the stage.
The Canadian musician has released five albums throughout his career, most recently releasing Miss Anthropocene in 2020. Last year, she released three new singles, including “Welcome to the Opera” with Anyma, “I Wanna Be Software” with Illangelo, and “Nothing Lasts Forever” with Sevdaliza.
