President-elect Donald Trump has nominated television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Oz is a physician and professor emeritus of cardiothoracic surgery at Columbia University, and hosted “The Dr. Oz Show” from 2009 to 2022.
“I am very pleased to name Dr. Mehmet Oz as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).America is facing a health care crisis, and there is no one more qualified than Dr. Oz to make America healthy again. He is a renowned physician, heart surgeon, inventor, and world-class communicator who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades. “Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to address the disease-industrial complex and all the terrible chronic diseases left in its wake,” President Trump wrote on Tuesday.
He added, “Our broken health care system is harming ordinary Americans and straining our budget. Dr. Oz will be a leader in encouraging disease prevention. That’s why we… We get the best results in the world for every dollar we spend on health care in our great country. He also accounts for a third of our health care spending and a quarter of our total national budget. It would reduce waste and fraud within costly government agencies.
Dr. Oz is a graduate of Harvard University and received joint MD and MBA degrees from my prestigious alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Wharton School of Business. He rose to become a professor of surgery at Columbia University, while earning numerous patents for his medical inventions, authoring more than 400 original publications, and numerous New York Times bestselling books.
He won nine Daytime Emmy Awards as host of “The Dr. Oz Show,” taught millions of Americans how to make healthy lifestyle choices, and became a major pillar of the MAHA movement. He gave a powerful statement. By founding Health Corps, a nonprofit organization that has improved the lives of millions of underserved teens across the country over the past 20 years, Dr. Oz and his wife Lisa We have expanded this initiative.
