Judy Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft has joined the chorus of movie fans excited about “Wicked” ahead of the musical’s theatrical release. Luft’s mother, of course, is a film icon who played Dorothy Gale in 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz.” “Wicked” serves as a musical prequel to that story, incorporating some of the events of “The Wizard of Oz” into its second act. Luft is the daughter of Garland Luft and Sidney Luft, and also the half-sister of Liza Minnelli.
“This movie is amazing! It’s epic, amazing, moving, and sincere,” Luft wrote on Instagram. “It’s breathtaking to see…the sets, the costumes, the make-up, the performances, the choreography, and the whole movie is everything I wanted. He said, picking up his broom and walking stick and carrying them forward, and thanking him for adding to his family.
Luft added that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who play Elphaba and Glinda, the two witches who eventually come into contact with Garland’s Dorothy later in the story, are “nothing short of amazing.”
“They take you on a roller coaster of emotions,” Luft wrote about the actors. “Vocally, both of them are phenomenal and mind-blowing! Their performances are honest, sensitive, funny, and absolutely perfect.”
Director Luft concluded that Wicked was made with “a lot of love and respect” for the original Wizard of Oz film, adding, “You should go see it and be taken on a journey with the witches.” Please!” he added. And buckle up, because it’s a ride full of joy. ”
“Wicked” is a film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, which has been running since 2003. The story centers on the friendship that develops between the popular Glinda and the outsider Elphaba. The film’s supporting cast includes Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, and Jeff Goldblum.
