Taskovski Film Sales has acquired director Miguel Calderon’s Loss Adjustment ahead of its international premiere at the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival’s Envision Competition.
The film depicts Pedro, a loss adjuster who travels across Mexico to investigate the causes of massive disasters, while dealing with corrupt “scavengers” who profit from human tragedy.
To escape the depravity and violence of everyday life, Pedro decides to immerse himself in a world he believes to be the exact opposite of himself: modern art.
He fell in love with artist Miguel Calderon’s photograph of a vulture, bought it, and his career as a collector began. This encounter sparks a deep friendship between Pedro and Miguel, and their worlds intersect.
Pedro becomes involved in a theatrical production, but his inexperience, the repulsive character he has to play, and the contradictory and seductive attitude of the actress lead him into an identity crisis. This play has taken a greater psychological toll on him than the tragic events he faces on a daily basis at work.
As the worlds of art and loss adjustment collide, Pedro finds himself in a paradox, unable to discern which of the two realms is more deceptive.
Mr. Calderon said: “‘Reconciliation of Loss’ explores the intersection of human tragedy and contemporary art, two seemingly distant worlds, but upon closer inspection, common complexities are revealed. is Pedro, a Mexican loss adjuster whose work exposes him to the corruption and brutality that occurs in the aftermath of disaster. His work reflects the dark side of society, where exploitation thrives in the shadow of disaster. I am.
“‘Reconciliation of Loss’ asks larger questions about the nature of identity. Can we truly escape the systems that bind us, or can we simply escape from one form of deception and another?” Can it simply be replaced in the form ?
The film was produced by La Triada’s Andrea Paasch, La Triada’s Agustina Chiarino, and Calderon, and co-produced by Bocacha Films and Cactus Document.
