Megan Fox’s new sci-fi movie obedience It made a lot of headlines when it was released in select theaters in September 2024. Netflix in the US has acquired the streaming rights, marking the first time the film will be available on the streaming service.
Foxx, best known for her roles in Transformers and Jennifer’s Body, plays the role of Alice in the sci-fi film. The story takes place in the near future, where AI-powered android bots become widespread and a family decides to invest in one for themselves after Nick’s wife Maggie starts getting sick. As with other artificial intelligence movies, things seem to be going well until Alice’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic and anxious.
In addition to Foxx, the film stars Michelle Morrone, Madeline Zima, Matilda Firth, and Andrew Whipp, and is directed by SK Dale. This marks the re-teaming of Fox and Dale, who previously worked on the 2021 thriller until deathrecently rejoined Netflix in the US.
It’s not a big box office success, but the attractive artwork (including stills made for men) makes us think it’ll draw a sizable number when it hits Netflix on December 5th. I imagine that even the lukewarm critic and audience reviews (5.2/10 on IMDb) won’t deter Netflix subscribers from checking it out.
As far as we know, the film is only available on Netflix in the US and UK, but availability may vary in other regions.
The film is licensed to Netflix by XYZ Films and Millennium Media, the former of which has previously worked with Netflix on SVOD debuts and Netflix original projects like this one. Previous SVOD pickups include: power outage 2022 and Hidden Strike 2023. Netflix original projects include: Code 8: Part II and run rabbit runand the next movie, chaosscheduled for release in 2025.
