Genesis Rodriguez reveals the toughest challenge of joining ‘Lioness’ Season 2
Collisionist: Josie’s character is the newest Lioness on the team, and she is very different from her teammates. She seems like a strange person. Can you talk a little bit about Josie’s journey to joining this team and her first impressions of the program?
Genesis Rodriguez: Going into the second season of the show, I was able to really get out of life. I was kind of a newbie and I was thinking, “How can I fit in here?” In other words, it was out of reach. After that, they were so welcoming to me that it didn’t add to the character even more because I loved them. but Josie has to deal with a lot this season. She deals with themes of sacrifice and loyalty, patriotism and family, but for her, do the ends justify the means? So, there’s a lot going on there, so I’m really happy to be able to show you all about her without spoiling too much.
This is a very physically demanding role for your character and many characters on this show. Was it a challenge for you to understand the physical aspects? What was the preparation like?
Rodriguez: That was very challenging for me. I had never done anything so transformative in terms of strength. My program started right after I received the job offer. I started training six days a week and was training with Navy SEALs. I was able to pick his brain on how he would handle certain situations and really understand the psychology of how he would handle these real life scenarios and that taught me my physicality and where to draw from for who this person is. Both from the inside and the outside. I also worked out — well, do you even call that training? I learned how to fly a helicopter.

‘Lioness’ Season 1 Recap: Things to Remember Before Season 2
Where did last season’s Taylor Sheridan thriller end?
It’s definitely a workout!
Rodriguez: [Laughs] I didn’t have those skills before taking this job, but it really helped my performance because I was able to imagine what it was like to be a helicopter pilot. That way you can really know what it’s like to be a helicopter pilot. You have to be very calm, cool and collected in the air. They always have to solve problems and have no time to panic. I mean, there’s a reason why she speaks like that. internal helicopter. Outside? A different person.
She’s very in control of those scenes. She became less swayed by people’s energy.
Rodriguez praises Taylor Sheridan’s writing of female characters
What’s it like collaborating with Taylor Sheridan on this project? He’s a guy who’s been on a lot of TV shows and has a lot of stories in his head. Was there anything surprising about working with him?
Rodriguez: He’s a creative genius. I’m so honored to be a part of his show. He’s amazing. For example, how does he do everything? I’m really incredibly lucky. The way he writes about women, too. We’re very lucky because they’re complex characters.. You see the conflict, the duality, the gray areas of real people, and that helps make the performance so real and authentic. It’s his writing. To be honest, every time I received a script, I was like, “Oh my god, what’s going to happen in the next episode?” I was always nervous and excited.
I felt the same way when I watched this show, so I can honestly relate.
Where do Josie’s loyalties ultimately lie in ‘The Lioness’ Season 2?
When it comes to Josie’s character and moral balance, I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but she has to struggle with where her loyalties lie, so to speak. Can you talk about tackling that aspect of the character and thinking about her through the lens of someone with multiple identities?
Rodriguez: No one is black or white. We all have gray in us. Each of us is a complex character. So the fact that you can take small pieces and display them in Josie, one of them. Being able to play gray is like an actor’s dream.and secondly, because it not only makes your job easier, but also gives more to your audience. It makes me think. That’s what we’re trying to do: create something that makes you think, “What would you do in this scenario?”
absolutely. I haven’t seen it yet, but I feel like if Cruise and Josie were to play against each other, even though they look similar, their personalities would be quite different. If you find out something like that, could you tease us about what that interaction is like?
Rodriguez: The great thing about being on Taylor’s show is the fact that there are twists and turns and you never know what’s going to happen. We promise it’s worth your time to check it out. The first few episodes will have you hooked. You never know what will happen.
I literally never expected anything to happen on this show.
Rodriguez: I know! It’s really good.
Genesis Rodriguez looks back on her time on ‘The Umbrella Academy’
Lastly, I would like to ask you something. umbrella academy Because I loved you on that show and I was a fan of your character. Were there any plans to come back for that final season? It was a shame we couldn’t get another Sloan. she was amazing. Or has that not been considered?
Rodriguez: I would love to do that. Having finished the show with six episodes, Steve [Blackman] I couldn’t. i would have loved To. Thank you for saying that because I love Sloan so much. and umbrella academy is a very special show to me.
