Sebastian Stan has been a key member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. But the actor recently admitted on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he tried to break into other Hollywood series before landing Marvel, one of which was Star Trek.
“There were some things I really, really wanted but couldn’t get,” Stan said. “J.J. I told him to do another photoshoot, so I made copies of all of William Shatner’s photos and sent them to him. [J.J.] Like to see how much I look like him. I didn’t understand. ”
Abrams ultimately cast Chris Pine as Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, starting with 2009’s Star Trek, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, and 2016’s Star Trek. Wreck Beyond” followed.
“‘Green Lantern’ was also something I screen tested for,” Stan said. “I remember when I got there, it was me, Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto, Ryan Reynolds, and maybe one other person. I remember them saying, ‘I’m fucked.’ I’m watching you. There’s no way this could happen to me. ” That wouldn’t have happened if I got closer, but looking back, I’m almost glad it didn’t happen. I don’t know if I could have gotten that level of attention like those guys did. ”
Although Reynolds eventually landed the role of Green Lantern, the 2011 comic book film was a notorious box office failure and a critical flop. Stan bounces back from his rejection by casting Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The role spans several MCU movies and TV shows, including the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and will next be seen in the film’s marquee film Thunderbolts, in which Stan stars alongside Florence Pugh. will also appear.
