Julie Chrisley really wants to get out of prison.
Of course, this may be something she wished she had considered years ago before moving on and breaking many US laws.
On September 25, a federal judge denied the disgraced reality star’s request for a shorter prison term than her original term, exasperated by her conviction on bank fraud and tax evasion charges.
The ruling came after the Court of Appeal revoked her original sentence, which began in 2022.
But now the Chrisley Knows Best alumna and her legal team are appealing the decision, hoping to reduce the amount of time Julie will have to spend as a prisoner.
Chrisley’s lawyer, Alex Little, asked the judge this week to reduce his client’s sentence by about two years.
He claimed in his filing that Chrisley was not involved in the aforementioned crimes, and that her “sporadic crimes” were “serious mistakes.”
The lawyer also stressed that Julie had behaved well in the previous 20 months in prison, had taken advantage of opportunities to gain wealth and had received more than 70 certificates.
Federal prosecutor Annalize Peters argued that Mr Julie played a “core role” in the fraud scheme and showed no apology or remorse, nor admitted any wrongdoing for his actions.
About two years ago, Julie, along with her husband Todd Chrisley and accountant Peter Tarantino, were convicted of federal tax evasion and bank fraud.
The indictment alleges that from 2007 to 2012, the couple intentionally “defrauded” community banks of at least $30 million by inflating their net worth to obtain loan approvals.
Prosecutors also alleged that the couple actively hid the large sums of money they made on the show “Chrisley Knows Best” and the $500,000 in taxes Todd paid in 2009.
“I feel like the judge exercised some bias against Julie,” Jay V. Sargent, another member of Julie’s legal team, told The Sun last month.
“I think so. [Judge Ross] I was trying to make an example of [Julie] Because of her status. The more well-known a person is, the more state and federal courts like to emulate that person. ”
The lawyer said he believed his client deserved a sentence of “less than 60 months” and that Julie “should have been given a maximum sentence of three to four years.” pointed out that he saw no merit in being sentenced to seven years in prison. Sentence.
But perhaps the idea was less beneficial and more punitive.
Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison for lying to the government.
The rich and extremely spoiled star was ordered to pay $17.8 million in restitution, but the amount was eventually reduced to $4.7 million.
Todd is currently in a minimum-security federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, with an expected release date of September 2032, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website.
The couple reportedly haven’t spoken in over 14 months.
