Responding to the growing demand for Indonesian horror, US-Thai film distributor EST N8 has acquired the rights to the feature film “Pelewangan”, which will be released in theaters in the domestic market later this month.
In Pelewangan, the characters Maya and Ulan face supernatural horrors as their once-thriving family business collapses, forcing them to confront the terrifying figure behind their misfortune.
The film is written and directed by director Awi Suryadi, known for his work on “KKN Di Desa Penari” and the “Danur” series, which recorded the highest box office revenue in Indonesian film history. The cast is led by Davina Karamoi, Restu Triandi and popular musician Shanti.
Pelewangan is produced by MD Pictures, an MD Entertainment company and is part of the Manoj Punjabi-led Indonesian film and television empire. The group has released over 190 films including ‘KKN Di Desa Penari’.
In addition to Pelewanggan, EST N8’s Busan market sales plan includes time-loop thriller “30 Minutes,” currently in post-production. Konkiat Komeshiri’s new thriller “Delivery Man”. The Korean action movie “Mash Vir” won the Fantasia Best Director Award. Horror thriller “Chabak” is No. 1 on Netflix Korea and was produced by legendary Tiger Kim Yong-seop. and the Nepali historical drama “Gurkha Warriors”.
EST N8 was formed as EST Studio and N8. EST Studios was founded in 2022 by Jaeson Ma and Eric Tu. The company represents Asian content across multiple genres and aims to fund, produce and represent 15 projects a year. Based in Thailand, N8 was founded by Kris Eiamsakulrat and Rachel Wu. Last year, N8 partnered with leading Thai studio GDH559 to co-produce Thai thriller and horror films for a global audience.
